From the Publisher
Solaris 8 Essential Reference is designed to be the ideal reference for Solaris users. Intended to be a desktop reference, this book assumes that the reader is well-versed in general UNIX skills and is simply in need of some pointers on how to get the most out of Solaris.
Author John Mulligan, creator and co-editor of SolarisGuide.com, has updated this version to the release of Solaris 8. However, this book remains an excellent reference for previous versions of Solaris, including Solaris 2.x and Solaris 7.
Included in Solaris 8 is the GNU software and utilities--essential tools for system administrators and users that are covered in the book. Additionally, you will find a list of the key new features of Solaris 8 in Appendix A, "Solaris Version Changes."

From the Inside Flap
Here's what reviewers are telling us about the book Solaris 8 Essential Reference:
"Solaris 8 Essential Reference is a book that should be on every administrator's shelf. It's easy enough for a "newbie" to pick up and comprehend and, yet, comprehensive enough to fulfill the needs of a senior-level administrator--each will find what they are looking for whether it be an in-depth description of a command, or a quick check of command syntax. I found the task reference section in Part III to be an added bonus." --Rob Friedman, Senior Unix Administrator, NS1.net
"Solaris 8 Essential Reference is a well-organized reference. Relevant information is easy to find, and it gets right to the point. As an added bounus, Chapters 10 and 12 are excellent references for otherwise hard-to-find information." --Michael Pepe, Systems Administrator/Independent Contractor
"John Mulligan's approach to Solaris 8 is very straightforward. Anyone who will be will be using Solaris 8 will benefit greatly from having such a comprehensive list of commands at their fingertips." --Joe Compagno, Systems Administrator, Hofstra University
