Book Description

0766821374 978-0766821378 July 14, 2000 3
Written for systems administrators by systems administrators, Solaris for Managers and Administrators, 3rd Edition is a "must" for readers seeking to maximize the power of Solaris, the premier UNIX operating environment for "dot-com" companies running the latest Internet appliances and powering the largest Web sites and Web portals. Ideal for entry-level systems managers with general UNIX knowledge, but little Sun systems administration experience, this bestseller offers practical guidance on the planning, installation, and maintenance of Solaris 2.0 through Solaris 8.0 systems. Numerous examples drawn from over 50 years of the authors' combined experience - plus strategically located Notes, Tips, and Warnings - ensure that even the most difficult concepts are addressed clearly and concisely. This book is the perfect tool for every system administrator tasked with managing a corporate-sized computer installation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Solaris Book so far !, May 20, 2001
By
L. Jankok (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Solaris 8 for Managers and Administrators (Paperback)
This book has the same quality and relevance level as the well known classic "Unix System Administration Handbook", but then specifically for the Solaris Operating Environment. This book is what "Solaris Solutions for System Administrators" should have been. If you don't know Solaris, this book can take to the level where you will be optimising (performance and security) driver parameters with ndd, and doing network diagnostics with snoop etc. If you are an experienced Solaris System Administrator without a photographic memory, than this superb piece of documentation will be the reference you want.

This book was a great help to me. I had not used Solaris for around 2 years, and this book helped me to get a feel for where I was, and also helped me land a great job. I recommend that everyone currently in or thinking about entering into Solaris work get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lumination, September 4, 2001

This review is from: Solaris 8 for Managers and Administrators (Paperback)
It was like someone turning on the lights after groping in the dark trying to understand Unix. Analogies describing ports/sockets was compared to doors to a building that allowed you access to different services. Is there a book like this for CCNA? Please show me the light if there is. During my unemployement I rush to understand IT concepts to get me certified, seeking to know the subject intimately through understanding rather through memorization. Finally, I have UNIX cornered with the help of this book.
