Ashish Daniel Wilfred is Microsoft Certified in Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++, Windows NT 4.0 Server, and Windows NT Workstation 4. He has worked for the past three years at NIIT Ltd. For the past two years, he has been working as a development executive in the Knowledge Solutions Business (KSB) division of NIIT. During his tenure at KSB, Ashish has had the opportunity to work on varied technical assignments. His work involves designing, developing, testing, and implementing of instructor-led training courses. He has developed learning materials for audiences with profiles ranging from network administrators to programmers. He developed learning materials on a wide range of technologies such as Windows 2000, Windows XP, SQL, Cisco, and Office XP. The learning materials were developed on different media such as ILTs, CBTs, WBTs, and books for various NIIT clients such as Microsoft, Course Technology, and Premier Press. Ashish also possesses experience in networking at NIIT Ltd. Before joining KSB, he ws the network administrator at the School for Employee Education and Development (SEED), a division of NIIT.

I am Solaris 9 certified and a Checkpoint-certified "Security Expert." I am also a GIAC-certified Intrusion Analyst. In my professional opinion, this is simultaneously one of the worst security books AND one of the worst Solaris books I have ever seen.

The author's "credentials," as mentioned in his bio, are almost entirely Microsoft-centric, with no mention whatever of Solaris in any way. And believe me, it shows.

I didn't (couldn't) finish the book, but I read or skimmed perhaps half of it and found dozens of errors -- often one or more on each page. Often, the discussions are muddy at best -- e.g., the "explanation" of PAM concepts.

This book is a disaster. Stay away from it. Get Limoncelli and Hogan instead, followed by reading the Solaris man pages for security-related utilities.

This is easily the worst computer-related book I have purchased in long time. I am a Sun Certified admin for Solaris 7 & Solaris 8, and I bought this in Feb. 2003 to help prepare for the new Sun Certified Security Administrator Beta Exam, as well as to help familiarise myself with some of the improved security features in Solaris 9, because it was one of the first books out that claimed to be focused on Solaris 9 security. In addition to being INEXCUSABLY riddled with technical errors (as if that weren't bad enough), the writing style is atrocious; it reads like a bad grammar-school book report (actually, worse). I'm serious. If I didn't feel so [taken advantage of for purchasing this garbage], I might actually feel sorry for the publisher for having been duped into publishing it. Trust me, it's REALLY BAD. The publisher (Premier Press) should be ashamed of themselves for not doing their homework. Fat chance I would ever consider buying a book published by them again.

The books contains not only errors but brings no new information about security on Solaris 9 and procedures. It simple does not show you any news besides man pages and Sun .pdf books. You must find all information on to-do's other place.
If you are looking for SC300 course and Security Cert on Solaris 9 this will disappoint you.
