Book Description

“Sold for Coconuts” - The Auction & Survival of A Sex Slave
This is the harrowing but inspiring account in outline of the memoirs of Maya: Facing early childhood discrimination as a Dalit, not being allowed to drink from the village well; being sold by her mother to pay off her father's debt. Then at the tender age of 11, Maya is married off to a temple God, before being auctioned at a deflowering ceremony to the highest bidder in the village. She is subsequently used as a sex slave well into her early twenties. Despite terrible struggles against men society and endless discrimination, Maya fights for justice for her fellow women and eventually becomes a local politician but unfortunately also a target of assassination.

This is a nutshell of a fascinating life!
“written so realistically and honestly you will want to jump into the story and defend her. I was so surprised when it came to an end, I felt like someone had ripped it out of my hands (or erased it from my Kindle! )
I recommend this booklet for anyone who believes that human rights are worth fighting for.”

The idea of living in a caste system is hard to contemplate, but many do, and this is the story of how one woman tried to change it. To step into her shoes as an "Untouchable" is to delve into a world so far removed from our own, but written so realistically and honestly you will want to jump into the story and defend her. I was so surprised when this synopsis came to an end, I felt like someone had ripped it out of my hands (or erased it from my Kindle!)

I recommend this booklet for anyone who believes that human rights are worth fighting for.

This book was pretty intense. Not very long, but interesting all the same. Makes you wonder how this stuff still happens. Worth the read.
