I found this novella to be a surprisingly good read. Why do I say surprising? Because it's obvious this book was originally conceived as a script, rather than a work of fiction. Simply put, this story begs to be drawn or animated! On that front it succeeds amiably. I'm familiar with Manga and Japanese animation and recognized the established conventions of the format in this story. If Sailor Moon and Magic Knight Rayearth series had an offspring, this would be it. Within the pages of Soldier Evolution Revolutionary Girl one could find many of the elements of those series contained within, from the Mokona-like Kamyu to the Sailor-Moon inspired names of the heroes: Soldier Evolution, Soldier Starlight, Soldier Firestar, etc.

The Good: The battle scenes were exciting and the action vividly described. This story was more visual than a lot of the science fiction and fantasy novels I've read. An impressive feat considering the sheer scope and variety of the characters' powers or enemies. Several times in the course of reading this story, I had to stop to marvel at how creative much of the content was.

The Bad: While I was impressed with the sheer imagination of the author, I was disappointed with some aspects of the story. The inevitable shortcoming of producing a work of fiction that is in essence a script left it in unenviable territory. On one hand, this story would make for a stunning Manga comic strip. On the other, it depends too heavily on the missing visuals to complete the experience. The author's attempt to describe the characters' looks ad naseum, however admirable, was self-defeating. The more details the story gave about the characters, the more I wanted to see them and not read about the color of their hair or what kind of halter top or high heel boots they were wearing. The constant information dumping became tedious after a while and I started to simply tune out.

With that said, the author does have a good story to tell, even if it is disjointed at times. The characters are young and vibrant and the plot is epic. There are some missteps. But this story will appeal to younger readers, especially fans of Japanese animation.

This book is only OK for wasting time, the characters lack depth and dimension and seem to poorly copy elements from just about every popular manga/anime (namely sailor moon). This book has so many flaws that it starts to become humorous, from the lack of culture study, as well as the implausible (even for a manga) theories and events. It is definitely not worth paying for so it's good that its free.

Cute, reminds me of Sailor Moon in a way but it was very entertaining. I am hoping that this book will help interest my twelve year old son in reading.

"SERG" the big problem was she started the story off by just presenting things without building it up or she didn't have any evidence before hand. However that new books she's writing could negate this argument. But I do admire that she lets her imagination flow through her work, just some of the characters need proper introductions and motivation. I don't know what the relationship behind Bunny and Lord Vinsfeld. The author introduce him as a man of Bunny's past but she never really establish what happened in the past I mean their was something but it wasn't enough. But once again the prequel will answer these questions. However, I want to learn how their receive these magical powers and why Solider evaluation was so powerful. The action of this book was topnotch it was very DBZ-like with a mixture and shenanigans of sailor moon. However, The action overlapped the story plot and meaning but I"m a action fan so it didn't really bother me that much. But after reading a book like Mizuki dragon warriors vol. 1 where the action and over all plot was equal. I kind of wanted Solider evolution to match it appeal yes I'm spoil so what :p but all in all it was a great story and I want the author to improve and make the prequel worth while. I'm cheering for you girl!

WARNING this is not a manga. Good thing it was free, or i would be suing amazon right now. This is just another crappy free book that will rot in my archived items.
