Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

You are John Mullins, veteran of three tours of Vietnam and the best freelance operative anywhere in the world. Your current mission is to find and secure four stolen nuclear warheads, then stop the rogue organization behind the thefts before it carries out its deadly mission. Dispatch as many of the organization's members as necessary to complete your mission. Failure means global disaster.

Product Description

Soldier of Fortune began its life on the PC, a first-person shooter with an added dose of realism. The PS2 incarnation is no different. As mercenary John Mullins, you will travel all over the world on a mission to take out terrorists. And you'll do so, one limb at a time if need be. Solder of Fortune features no less than 26 body zones all of which can be blown apart using Ravens GHOUL technology. Although the majority of the action consists of pumping bullets into your enemies, some situations require you to make a little less noise. When that happens, use your trusty dagger to carve up your opponents. Either way, there is no shortage of gore in this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXELLENT FIRST PERSON SHOOTER, December 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Soldier of Fortune (Gold Edition) (Video Game)
wow, this game is amazing, i noticed that a few people have given it a bad rating. i, presonally dissagree with them. maybe you should tone down the blood and gore (it gets a little disturbing)but i guess that's all for the better, right? I think it's a very good game and it is also a good party game because of the multiplayer. The graphics are mind-blowing and i was smply blown awa by the gameplay. if you are a fan of first person shooters i would definetly buy this game (weak-stomached beware of the location damage) those of you who don't know what location damage is it's like if you shoot in the leg wit a shotgun, his leg gets injured and/or blown off, so its like a location on your body gets damaged, get it?

5.0 out of 5 stars I own it, and have played the PC version, December 8, 2001
This review is from: Soldier of Fortune (Gold Edition) (Video Game)
I checked up on this game and saw that a few people gave it a bad review. First of all, only a few people gave it a bad review, not enough to be a deciding factor. Secondly, they say it's "overhyped". I haven't seen much hype about this game, I mean it isn't like the overhyped "Devil May Cry" (which I own also and do enjoy, but it is way overhyped). This game is great, I had it on dreamcast and PC and I think it is just as good if not better than either other version. The graphics are beyond great, the backgrounds are good and the weapon effects are flawless. No other game has close to the realism and feel of "Soldier of Fortune". The weapons are great and creative. The weapons all have different affects on the people and the environments. I think telling someone not to get this game is cruel. Games have a funny way of being loved by some, despised by others (eg Silent Hill 2, one of my favorites). I would encourage anyone interrested to try it at least and not take the reviews too seriously since feelings on this game are so diverse. Everyone I know loves this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous stress-reliever., November 10, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Soldier of Fortune (Gold Edition) (Video Game)
This game is 95% Hand-Eye Coordination / and about 5% Logical Problem-solving.

Wonderful game! Extremely Violent! This could be good - or bad - depending on your philosophy. And by "violent" - I mean limb-dismemberment, agonizing screams, heads blown off, wiggling intestines, slowly growing puddles of blood, etc...

Some people criticize this as "having no story" or being a "no-brainer", but I love its simplicity!

I'm not saying it's an 'easy' game to win; rather that it's not IMPOSSIBLE to figure out how to play. It is NOT necessary to thoroughly study some 60-page owners' manual before playing this game (I hate that!)

Also when you ARE playing the game, there are NO difficult puzzles to solve. Nothing to side-track you. Nothing to stop THAT FABULOUS MOMENTUM!!!! No secret codes to crack. Nothing tricky - It's just blood-&-guts bad-guy killing!

You put it in & start playing. SIMPLE! The default controls are easy to remember, but using the SETTINGS, you're able to CHANGE any control you wish.

Great stress-reliever. Call me derranged, but I just love it!

I've read some reviews that say this game has 'racist overtones'. Personally I don't see that here.

The bad guys come in ALL colors of the rainbow. You start off killing a bunch of evil hooligans who've taken over a New York subway station. (although one has a Russian accent - the rest are all white guys with completely American accents - Heck most of them are blonde!) - then in the next round you're killing African soldiers on a train carrying an atomic bomb.

Then in the third round you're killing Eastern Europeans. I don't see one particular race or ethnic group being favored over another. EVERYONE DIES!

There's room for improvement, but very often I'll get stuck playing this game till the wee hours of the morning - and I've owned this game for a couple years now.
