4.0 out of 5 stars over the top shooter December 30, 2007
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game may not be the most realistically accurate shooting game out there, but who cares! Its just a game! I bought this and Call of Duty 4 at the same time and asmuch as I like Call of Duty I would have to say that this game has some advantages. For instance, you can shoose which guns you uses before each level. Also you can customize each one with differnt types of sights, silencers, ect. The over the top violence is graphic as can be since you are able to blow off limbs with just one shot which is then followed by a blood spray that would make George Romero cringe.

All in all, no, it's not the best shooter out there, but it is still fun in it's own way if your in the mood for senseless violence with a lot of blood.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the FPS to get for the PS3 November 30, 2007
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This is a very basic FPS with very long load times and ALOT of unlockable weapons that open as you complete missions. The problem is that while the controls aren't broken they are just so basic as are the environments that you can help but stave off the yawns as you split apart the bodies of your foes with some fairly cool and powerful weapons. SOF Payback is also following on the heels of COD4 which has set a new standard for FPS gaming. The graphics are mediocre the gameplay is nothing more than shooting one villian after another with occasional demoltion missions. Boring generic and too late to the party this game is almost guaranteed to disappoint in practically every facet, my advice is try out every other NEXT GEN FPS before you give this one a shot as I suspect it might be the bottom of the barrel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best shooter, but fun nonetheless. December 30, 2008
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Ok, so this is not the best fps out there for any system. The graphics could have been better and a lot could have been implemented in the gameplay. But for some reason, I just keep want to keep on playing this game. The weapons are pretty cool, and I like how you fight a "boss" at the end of every stage. The gore is cool, not too realistic, but nice to have.

Some of the problems I encountered were I got shot when I was in cover, and sometimes my gun would just kill an enemy when I clearly was off range. I guess it works in my advantage. Online play is Rainbow Six Black Arrow fun, but you will only find a handful of games to play. Maybe a total of 30 people play in the entire server.

Overall, for me, this game is fun if you are looking to just run and gun. But if you are more of a tactical, graphic seeker, Call of Duty 4 fanatic, then this might not be the game for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars wow this is bad March 1, 2008
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
the best thing about this game is that I rented it and didn't buy it. It was probably the wrong game to play after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is a game so much better it pains me to mention the two in the same sentence.

3.0 out of 5 stars A typical run and gun shoot 'em up. August 2, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Well, it's no Call Of Duty or even Medal Of Honor but it's a passable FPS.
The graphics are just so-so, no crisp foliage, no detailed buildings....
The storyline is A-typical for a game like this, you're in charge of escorting a top enemy of the state but then things go downhill and a most trusted person in your unit turns on you and kills the objective, then it's your job to kill him, which is fairly easy to do, now it's your job to find out who is behind all of this, all the while being assisted by his two way communication radio with a female at the other end.
This is not the greatest shooter of it's kind out there for the PS3, but it's nowhere near the worst.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent FPS March 19, 2014
By Zencik
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
I won't lie, the only reason I ended up purchasing this game is because I found it at my local Gamestop for $5 and I enjoy FPS games. As far as they go, this one is decent for a one time play-through. Don't play this expecting something along the lines of Call of Duty or Battlefield. This is a much more straight forward classic FPS and nothing more. The most enjoyable thing about it is the excessive gore which is enjoyable for us sickos out there. The gameplay is fine for the most part, but there are some glitches that are frustrating. The graphics are meh and not very impressive, but not terrible. The game itself is also very easy and will take you no more than a couple hours to complete. If you can find the game for a cheap price like I did, than go ahead and give it a shot. It's good after you've done all there is to do on COD.

P.S. Don't buy this game for the online. Nobody plays. AT ALL!

4.0 out of 5 stars for fans of the Solider of Fortune series January 6, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
I have played both Solider of Fortune 1 and 2 and I enjoyed them alot on the pc of course but I recently got this for my ps3 today and I really enjoyed the game but I am rating 4 stars because it can get boring after a little while but I don't recommend your young ones playing this of course has some really violent content hence the rating but if you don't mind over the top violent shooters this could be your game possibly, but this should game should be really reasonable price both online and offline because I got my copy from gamestop for $2.69 here in Cali. Anyway it does not have much of a story but I personally don't care for story. I only care for GAMEPLAY something that is missing from most modern games at times in my opinion. To sum it up its a fun game for those who enjoy the Solider of Fortune series.
