3.0 out of 5 stars Oops, I commented on the Movie's music, not the CD!
Hi, I feel kind of dumb here, because I wrote my first review on the basis of the music in the movie, which I saw several times before the CD came out. I did not realize the the music from the movie is NOT the soundtrack, that the CD is the soundtrack. This is my revised review.

I like the music and would buy it again, but I am disappointed that more cuts weren't...

Hi, I feel kind of dumb here, because I wrote my first review on the basis of the music in the movie, which I saw several times before the CD came out. I did not realize the the music from the movie is NOT the soundtrack, that the CD is the soundtrack. This is my revised review.

I like the music and would buy it again, but I am disappointed that more cuts weren't included.

The soundtrack does not have Loreena McKennitt's song, which was played during Sgt. Todd's rehumanizing, nor does it have the old rock song. It also does not have several of the cuts that refer to other Sc- Fi Movies such as ID4 and Star Wars.

Track 1: New Soldiers vs Old Soldiers Track 2: The Chain Fight Track 3: Welcome to Hell Track 4: Todd is Exiled Track 5: Soldier Ships Arrive Track 6: One Against Many Track 7: The Final Battle Track 8: Redemption

See the CD "The Book of Secrets" for Loreena McKennitt's Song "Night Ride Across the Caucasus". Her music is nothing short of phenominal.

John

1.0 out of 5 stars Author Left out the best!, December 27, 2004
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
If you want the music that really made this movie then you are looking for Loreena McKennitt's 'The Book of Secrets' and you won't be disappointed. I had to buy them both before I found the music I thought was contained in the soundtrack. James Milne

3.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack or Score?, May 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I just recently watched the movie on cable and thought it was a decent movie with a decent soundtrack. However, like the other reviews listed for this soundtrack people were either disappointed or surprised that the one song that attracked people to buy the soundtrack was not on the soundtrack.
I always thought that a "soundtrack" was a list of songs used in a movie; and the "score" was the 'music' designed to enhance the movie's action, drama, or to envoke an emotional reaction within it's audience. If we go by this definition, then this CD is the score to the movie and not a soundtrack. The score is good, however it was not I what I was expecting to hear while reviewing it's sample cuts. Though I do like the "score" (to which I still bought by the way), I still wish they included the song that peaked my interest in the first place.
For those who are wondering sung the song...it was Lorena McKennitt's 'Night Ride Across the Caucasus.' Another wonderful CD to add to your collection.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed, February 11, 2000

Like some of the other reviewers I should have paid more attention before I bought. I am unsure how this is titled "Original Soundtrack". Most of the cuts from the movie are not even on here. Especially my favorite which was a very nice tune that came after the soldier rescued the guy during the wind storm (right before the carrot cutting scene). Major dissapointment for me. The cuts (only 8) on the CD are good, but I would not have bought it had I known.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as Advertised, February 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I was very disappointed in the CD. I placed repeated orders, only to find it out of stock every place I shopped, which, of course, meant I waited weeks to finally obtain a used copy. The longer it took to obtain the CD, the more I looked forward to hearing some of the sensitive, tantalizing melodies that had impressed me from the movie. When the CD arrived, I was certain I had a defective CD because some of the music seemed to be missing, i.e. the sensitive, tantalizing melodies. Nope. What you hear is what you get and it isn't the complete soundtrack.

In the past, when I have purchased an "original motion picture soundtrack", the CD contained all of the music that I could remember from the movie I appreciated so much. Not so in this case. The softer, more gentle, tracks from the movie aren't on this CD. There are a couple of good tracks but most are aggressive, loud, militant and nerve-racking.

If you're looking for music to be belligerant by, this CD is for you. If you're looking for the original movie soundtrack, wait until it comes out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loud & Militant, August 6, 1999
By
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For the movie "Soldier", composer Joel McNeely composed a (not surprisingly) very militant sounding score. Utilizing a heavy dose of brass and snare drums, "Soldier" is definately not for those seeking a rousing, thematic and inspiring soundtrack. Instead, it would appeal more to those who appreciate militant and action-oriented music. If I had to compare this score to another simply for the sake of trying to describe its music, I would have to say "Aliens". Some of the big action sequences in "Soldier" sound somewhat similar to that of "Aliens". Before recommending you buy this score, however, I must warn you to see the movie first. Fans of the film will undoubtedly appreciate the score better than those who hated it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Tracks From the Movie, July 16, 2011
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
As was said before, the CD is missing tracks from the movie, I was looking for Monster Magnet's "Powertrip" which plays during the closing credits, but its not on the soundtrack... Pretty much limited to Joel McNeely's work--which is good--its not really a complete soundtrack.

2.0 out of 5 stars SOUNDTRACK FOR SOLDIER, December 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Soldier: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
You sent me the movie on DVD, you didn't send me the soundtrack to soldier. This is the first time I had an issue with an order, that's why I didn't complain.

With Kindest Regards;
John Dungy

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack poignantly ties past Sci-Fi to Soldier., December 18, 1998

John M. Maunder (Castro Valley, California) - See all my reviews

Soldier brings back exciting memories of related events in such movies as Independence Day, Star Wars and other Sci-Fi greats, while standing as good music on its own. The choice of Loreena McKennitt's "Journey through the Caucasus" to highlight Sgt. Todd's personal journey into his humanity was a stroke of genius. Great music for a great film.
