Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This book has definitely found a "niche" in the world of the Army Soldier and is considered by many an indispensable tool for personal and professional development. Few people know the "Board Scene" better than the author who, as a junior enlisted soldier and later as a noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Army, made countless board appearances. In addition to receiving the maximum possible score of 200 points on both his E-5 and E-6 promotion boards, he received top finishes on numerous Soldier/NCO of the Month, Quarter, and Year Boards and was selected as the Third Infantry Division's NCO of the Year. Additionally, he was inducted into the highly prestigious Sergeant Morales Club - the pinnacle of NCO achievement. He has since departed active duty and dedicates his life to maintaining the most accurate and up-to-date resource of its kind available.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get the new edition, October 29, 2003
This review is from: The Soldier's Comprehensive Study Manual (Paperback)
I've won soldier of the quarter boards thanks, in a large part, to this book. But, the 9th edition will have all the updated FM numbers; which you are probably going to need to do well on SGT and SSG boards. Go to Banda books website and buy it there or if you are lucky enough to have a decent clothing sales store get the 9th edition there.
To be honest though, this book makes the difference between getting a low 130s score and a high 140s score on your promotion board. The 9th edition is a MUST HAVE for the SPC and CPL looking to move up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Check with your unit!, December 19, 1999
By
Jennifer Hays (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Soldier's Comprehensive Study Manual (Paperback)
This guide is **TOO** comprehensive. There is no way in a thousand years I could have memorized all of the information in the guide with the time I had available before my board. I bought a copy at Clothing Sales store and returned it both for that reason and because it was too expensive.

My battalion had a more current study guide available. My unit narrowed down a lot of the subject matter in this guide, and then updated it. They also added information that was pertinent to modern day soldiers, e.g., they eliminated the trivia.

Actually, even the other smaller commercial guides are a better product than this one. Search the on-line bookstores for the more up to date ones.
