Looking for an extra-wide treadmill that's ready for hard training? Look no further than the Sole TT8 non-folding treadmill. The TT stands for 22, as in a 22-inch-wide running surface designed to give users an extra-safe, comfortable feel. The running belt is the widest in the Sole catalog, and guarantees that almost any runner will feel confident whether walking at a slow gait or jogging hard. All Sole treadmills are outfitted with powder-coated, all-steel welded frames and heavy-duty, stable inclines. The TT8, however, is more powerful than most, with an industrial-quality 3.5-horespower continuous-duty motor and an all-steel, zinc-coated balanced flywheel. Together, the components create a secure, quiet, vibration-free walking/running surface. The flywheel is also much heavier than most other brands, giving runners the fluid motion they're accustomed to at the gym.

The TT8's console includes a vibrant LCD display and an integrated sound system.
To accommodate runners with balky joints, Sole added its low-impact, whisper-quiet Cushion Flex system. The Cushion Flex system greatly reduces the impact to your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and spine, making it comfortable for frequent runners or for users with running- and walking-related injuries. In a recent study, researchers concluded that the Cushion Flex deck reduced impact up to 40 percent as compared to running on asphalt. At the same time, the treadmill boasts a grated, reinforced framework that's rated for users up to 425 pounds. Resilience and toughness, all in one.

The TT8 makes it easy to track your workout progress via the vibrant LCD display, which includes windows for speed, incline, time, distance traveled, calories, pulse, and pace. The console also sports a 1/4-mile track and a peak-and-valley graph for different programs, along with an integrated sound system for listening to your iPod or MP3 player (the system includes built-in speakers and a sound cord that plugs into your player's headphone jack). Perhaps the handiest feature is the integrated message board, which offers scrolling messages that walk you through the treadmill's features or the workout itself. The message board will also recap your entire routine after you're finished, so you can see your progress from workout to workout.

The TT8 comes complete with two heart-rate-controlled workout options, so you can customize the workout specifically to your needs. Throughout your HR workout, the treadmill will display a heart rate zone graph on the console while adjusting the incline to keep you in your target zone (the treadmill includes a wireless chest strap that touts a 99.9 percent accuracy rating). The remainder of the time, you can challenge yourself with the six automatic programs or two customizable programs.

Finally, the treadmill includes a built-in cooling system that prevents overheating, allowing it to hold up to extra-long runs or back-to-back users. The sturdy design makes the TT8 suitable for light commercial applications, including as a training device for police or firefighters. Other features include built-in cooling fans, armrest speed and incline controls, and large 3-inch rollers. The TT8 is a non-folding treadmill, making it a great choice for homes with dedicated fitness rooms.

The non-folding treadmill offer Sole's largest running deck at 22 by 60 inches.

Lives up to the Hype December 23, 2010
By Mike C
I have been researching treadmills for a long time now. I wanted to make sure that I purchased a treadmill that could withstand many, many, miles. I run marathons and ultra marathons so I didnt want a flimsy pc of equipment, but at the same time I didnt want to spend 5k either. I once ran a marathon(26.2) on the treadmill at my gym just for fun. All of my research lead me to this 2011 Sole TT8, and now that I'm running on it I see why. This is a solid pc of equipment and stands up to the treadmills in the Gym, maybe even better. For 2,300 dollars I cant imagine that there is a better treadmill on the market, you just have to run on it one time to see what I'm talking about.
I did read that you can assemble this in about 15 minutes, maybe if you work for Sole and put treadmills together for a living it would be possible, otherwise you are looking at about an hour or more. Pretty simple assembly though, nothing complicated.
Very happy with my purchase.

First off, to the user who commented on his unit being unstable, I would recommend that you call the service department or contact Sole directly as you may have a specific problem with your unit (e.g., motor or flywheel) that they can help you address.

I recently purchased this unit, it was shipped free to my home, arrived five days after purchase, and I just set it up yesterday. I have been a regular gym treadmill user and have become used to running on various models. This is the first home treadmill I have purchased.

PROS: The unit is very stable and solidly built. The assembly took about an hour from start to finish and was fairly intuitive. Being tall (I'm 6'6" and 230lbs), the 22" wide deck and 60" length is comparable to what one would find on a high-end unit in any gym. The incline feature cycles smoothly, and the unit is very sturdy even at high speed (greater than 8.0 mph).

CONS: The motor cycles very slowly between speed changes. For example, it can take upwards of thirty seconds to go from a comfortable running speed (such as 6.5 mph) down to a comfortable walking speed (such as 3.5 mph), which can make for a somewhat awkward transition. I suspect this is a specific built-in programming feature by the manufacturer to prolong/protect the motor. The display is average and there are limited programmable features. The fans and speakers are less-than-desirable for a high-end unit.

BOTTOM LINE: This is a non-folding treadmill built for running. Overall, I'm very happy with this unit as I make the switch from running on professional models at the gym to running more at home. It is sturdy, smooth, quiet, and first impression is that it will hold up well to a lot of use. Ideally, the speed transitions would be a little faster (which, it seems, the 3.5 HP motor should be able to handle) and the control panel would have better features more consistent with the price tag.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
For a $2,300 list price, I was very skeptical about how well this unit would perform. I didn't like the idea of a quick assembly, low cost treadmill. I remembered the endless hours I spent assembling a Bowflex back in the day, and that unit left plenty to be desired in the durability department.

But no, there was nothing to be worried about. The Sole TT8 Treadmill is as solid as a rock! It's sturdily built from quality parts. Somehow, the company has devised a machine that is both durable and inexpensive.

Overall, it performs as you'd expect a modern treadmill of this nature to perform. There are different programs to exercise on, health metrics that you can input, speed/elevation adjustments, etc. As one reviewer noted, the speed changes ARE darned pokey, which gets annoying. But unless you are running lots of intervals, you probably won't be bothered by this. For this low of a price, I find it hard to complain about such small things. It doesn't have the most fancy-shmancy options on it, but its has enough to get the job done.

I've only been using it for a few months, so it's hard to be certain about the long term durability or customer service when things go wrong. But as one might notice with, say, a Honda, you may never need to go to the company for service on this device...I doubt it will break down in the short or medium term.
