How blind are we, as English speakers?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soledad (Audio CD)
I couldn't get my breath at this CD. It has to be the most refreshing, the most inspirational, the most beutiful piece of work an artist has produced in the 90s. I didn't understand the lyrics the first time I heard them, I don't speak French. But the music and Obispo's voice carried me to places where my heart had never been before. For a long time, I'd been looking for something refreshing, something unique, and in Pascal Obispo's Soledad I found both. It took me to the year 2000 to find it and that I am more than upset about. Then, when I decided to translate the lyrics, the CD took on even more meaning and even more depth. This guy is raw tallent beyond compare. It's not heavy, if you like heavy, forget it. But if you're a lost soul, looking for the inspiration you lost a long time ago in this world of repetitive drum beats and monosyllic choruses - this is it. This is what you have been looking for. Don't hesistate in buying this CD. The same goes for Obispo's later album, Superflu - both display a depth and understanding of what moves people musically which has been lost in a lot of the English speaking bands of today. If we weren't so bigotted in the US and England, Pascal Obispo would be bigger than any male solo artist you care to name. These songs mean something, these songs are special.

Sensational listening,

By watching at the artwork of this cd I first thought that this frenchman is very stylish .Then by listening to his album i also discovered his is very talented too.Pascal Obispo has a rich voice with which he smoothly gives a special kind of life to his songs."Neil Armstrong ou gagarine" and "Soledad" are some of the tracks you should give a special attention to but most of all take your time to enjoy "Silence",a four minute ballad just before the end of the album which he wrote himself...it sounds so tender,so sensive and sensational(especially the part where he murmurs). And if somehow the french language is connected with the sense of love, this is one more reason to buy this disc.

one of the best albums I have bought recently,

A friend of mine made me listen to a live album by Obispo, which sounded alright. In the shop I had a quick listen to some tracks on this album, which sounded better. When I was able to really listen to it at home, I realised I had bought a world-class album. It is difficult to describe the style; it is certainly not latin, except for Soledad. Rock, jazz, dance, you can find anything on this album, but it is not just a random mix of styles. This is real quality music, maybe comparable to Massive Attack (but at the same time not comparable to anything else because it is just fantastic in its own way).
