5.0 out of 5 stars great song b/c its a great band, July 5, 2010
This review is from: Wore Out The Soles Of My Party Boots (Album Version) (MP3 Download)
At first listen it sounds just like any ol' (newer) sounding NOFX song. The 'punk rocker gettin older' theme has previously been done by them, the lyrics simple and, at times, non-sensical. But underneath its multi-layered minute and a half pastiche, the melodies and chord progressions in this song are great. The over all composition is really quite intricate with all the overlapping guitars, breaks, and fills. While the guitars harmoniously and abrasively compliment each other in that punk rock sort of way the melodies and hooks somehow still shine unique amongst the droning monotony that is the modern rock riff. And how can anyone argue with the way this guy can continually come up with playful, self loathing, rhymes and plays on words? While short, it is a great song, with unconventional and shifting chord patterns, subtle breaks and dynamics, and a brief glimpse into the nostalgic, alcoholic and drug-riddled decadence of an immortal punk rock act. In short, it is NOFX brilliance.
