4.0 out of 5 stars A Little on the Noisy Side
Plus:

The unit cools well. It is small and easy to move.

Minus:

The dehumidifier is fairly noisy and it runs when the unit is in dehumidifier mode or in air conditioner mode. The compressor (which only runs in air conditioning mode) is very quiet as is the fan. I would not use this unit in a bedroom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed unit
This product is not worth it's value. It is poorly designed and pretty much useless in a humid climate.

1. If it's over 90 degrees outside, it will not cool off a medium room fast enough.

2. Window kit required modification.

3. In humid climates, water does not evaporate fast enough. It drips into a very small reservoir which fills...

The dehumidifier is fairly noisy and it runs when the unit is in dehumidifier mode or in air conditioner mode. The compressor (which only runs in air conditioning mode) is very quiet as is the fan. I would not use this unit in a bedroom.

Installing the exhaust hose was a bit difficult as the hose did not have any end coverings and was a tight fit into the widow and air conditioner connectors.

The window slider kit is easy to install but the height is too small. The slider is only a little bit bigger that the opening for the window exhaust adapter. With the adapter in the slider does not sit on the bottom of the window frame. In my window there is a half-inch gap between the bottom of the slider and the bottom of the window frame that has to be filled in.

BTW, the instructions for removing the unit from the packaging material and box require you to destroy both so there isn't any way to repack the unit if you need to ship it back.

This product is not worth it's value. It is poorly designed and pretty much useless in a humid climate.

1. If it's over 90 degrees outside, it will not cool off a medium room fast enough.

2. Window kit required modification.

3. In humid climates, water does not evaporate fast enough. It drips into a very small reservoir which fills up every single hour. The spout at the bottom in the back is hard to reach and drain if unit is resting on the ground. The included drip pan is a joke. This thing leaks uncontrollably, causing a bad odor in your carpet. I had to elevate my unit off the ground so it will drip into a large bucket. You will be waking up every hour due to the reservoir filling up and the compressor stopping, and room temperature rising causing discomfort.

I tried to return the product but was just past the 30 day return policy. I will not buy another Soleus product again. If you need something other than a spot cooler, you may want to consider something above 7,000 BTU (you can find higher BTU coolers for close to the same price on Amazon).

My Soleus 7000 only lasted about 2 years before I got an E04 message on the display, which Soleus told me means the compressor is out of Freon and is not repairable. Prior to the E04 message the unit worked great. I live in Central Florida and used it to cool down a den which it did fairly quickly. I ran the unit almost every day between May and October. I guess I got my use out of it, but would have expected it to last more than 24 months before shutting down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Soleus 7000 - Ruined my carpet/floor, etc., June 11, 2008
This portable air conditioner leaked gallons of water onto my bedroom carpet. The water went through to the ceiling of my living room below the bedroom. We have had to rip out the carpeting, because it was soaked. The wood floor beneath it may have to be replaced.
The company that sold us the unit will not take it back because there's a fifteen day return policy. It's an air conditioner and we didn't need to use it before the last heat wave, so the fifteen days went by without our needing to use the unit.
They said they will repair it, but we have to drive it to a place an hour and a half away just to drop it off. And then pick it up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge, over-priced fan, May 14, 2008
We've checked the unit several times and have everything setup correctly, however, all this humongous block of plastic does is blow around air. The A/C function DOES NOT WORK. Save yourself the cash and floor space. You can get the same (actually better and less noisy) results from a simple electric fan. Also, as the other reviewer commented, the exhaust needs a window to vent. It didn't work in our sliding door because the vent frame it came with was too short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 26, 2007
For this type of price, I will rate excellent.
Low AMP, Low Voltage, Perfect for one single room, the size of master bedroom with bathroom. And also include panel exhaust kit for windows.

Low budget.

2.0 out of 5 stars cools ok but leaks randomly, August 15, 2010
This review is from: Soleus Air® 7000 BTU Portable Evaporative Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
If only there had been reviews of this portable when I bought it 3 years ago. I took a chance. I thought it was something I was doing wrong, or the unit was defective, as I discovered right away that it leaks from underneath quite a bit, enough to soak several towels in an hour in humid weather. But I had destroyed the box to get it out, it weighs a lot, it does cool well, and returning it didn't seem like an option . If I had the inclination I could put it up on a homemade stand of some sort so a pan, like a cake or bread pan maybe, would fit under it, there is no space under it for anything but a piddle pad as it is. But I 'm going to give it away now that I got small ac's for the bedroom and living room windows. Don't buy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars does not like humidity, July 13, 2010
This review is from: Soleus Air® 7000 BTU Portable Evaporative Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
i picked this unit up last summer to cool the back bedroom... for cooling it works just fine its only 7000btu so it has its limits... however the constant dripping is really annoying.. the included drain pan is a joke it holds maybe 3/4 of a cup of water.. ill have to build a stand of sort that i can fit a real drip pan under.. these units work great in server rooms and other low humidity places but in a house its just not cutting it even in socal..
