Product Description

Ultra Thin Micathermic Heater uses 500W/1000W, and High, Low and ECO Mode heat settings. ECO Mode = energy saving function that cuts power by 1/3 when room temp reaches set point to save energy. Micathermic heat utilizes technology from both convection and radiant heat, that use 80% convection and 20% reflective heat, distributing heat consistently and more evenly throughout the room, along with overheat and tip-over safety protection features.

My Soleus HM1-10-32 is used to supplement my oil heat since prices have gone up. I have no problem heating a 18' x 12' living room. I wanted the non-remote version because I've got too many remotes and dont need another one. To my surprise this regular model is now coming with ECO (economy mode).

The heating element consists of two 500W vertical heat panels:

1) LOW: In this mode only one heat panel turns on (the right panel).

2) High: In this mode both (right and left) heat panels turn on.

3)ECO: In this mode both 500W heat panels turn on until the room reaches a certain temp then the right heat panel turns off and the left one remains on until the thermostat takes over and cycles one 500W panel.

Noise: The 500W heat panels will warp at little as they warm-up. This warping makes a low clunk sound. Not loud enough to disturb you but noticable. Also the thermostat makes a click as it cycles.

Power: 1000W seems to be enough for me and doesnt cause heating of the line cord. At this power level the unit can share another device on the same line if need be. The 500W setting works well for most of my conditions. For instance I get home from work and the burner has kept the house at 63 degrees F. I turn-on the heater at 1000W until the living room wall thermostat reads 69 F then I turn the heater to low and let it cycle.

Heat: Since it has a back or rear to the element I tried it up against a wall. This heated the wall up real well. After moving it out in the open it seemed much more effective. The heater emits a LOT of heat out of the top and heats only about out to three feet from the front. I also heats out to 1.5 feet to the rear.

Does a good job heating a 10" x 12' bedroom. It's totally silent, so it's perfect for the bedroom. It does heat up almost instantly, but at only 1000 watts, does not heat up the room very quickly. Best to turn it on an hour before you turn in, to give it time to heat up the room. I'm using it in a house that I set to 58 degrees overnight, with single digit temperatures outside. The bedroom stays in the upper 60's for the night while this is on. Update: It stopped working after a couple of months. Got a new one that's been working fine all winter. The one year warranty was good, but the return experience was poor. Had to call many times over many days to get an actual person. The return involved cutting the end of the power cord and mailing at my expense back to them (good to not have to pay to send the entire unit back). Plus, had to send them money to cover shipment of the replacement unit (I think it was $16). All in all, it cost me over 40% of the original cost to get warranty replacement. It seems that this is becoming a common practice these days, but not easy to find out until you call for repair. So consider this a heads up so you can factor this in to your purchasing decision.

Really liked the -10R-32 in the bathroom on cold mornings when we didn't want to turn up the heat just before heading for work. With no warning, it just quit working and the power button started blinking instead of being on continuously. I called customer service and was told that the warranty had just run out and the best thing to do was BUY ANOTHER ONE! Did I sound like I just fell off the turnip truck? I went right out and bought a vertical ocillating unit with variable temperture selections. It work just fine.

We used the Soleus Air flat panel heater for a few weeks last winter. Pulled it out this winter and it only lasted maybe 7-8 days. The power turns on but the power light blinks and the unit produces no heat. I called the customer service number and they weren't helpful as to why the light was blinking or what to do. I didn't keep the receipt so can't send it in for warranty coverage. I do not recommend this heater. Waste of money for something that gave us less than 2 months usage before breaking down.

This heater only worked for a total of about 60 hours. Apparently Soleusa Air makes their items VERY cheap.

When you first plugged it in, it created a horrible smell that made me cough. Had to run it on full blast outside for about 4 hours. Then if it hadn't been used for a while, it would have a bad smell for about 5 minutes. After about a year the thermostat stopped working and it would be on high no matter what the setting. It finally burned out after a few years. I would not buy this brand again.

I bought this heater more than 5 years ago and it has been the best space heater I've ever owned. I originally bought an oil-filled radiator heater, but when it would come on, I could hear subtle metallic noises (tink...tink...) which, while not that loud, got louder and louder when trying to sleep. I returned that, got this heater, and not only does it do an excellent job heating, but it is completely quiet. Another plus is that it heats subtly and evenly, so you don't find yourself going from sweating to freezing (like with cheap fan heaters). Lastly, it is great for a bedroom because it doesn't have a glowing element (like an infrared heater). This does not have a fan, but it is cleverly design to circulate heat. I plan to buy a couple more of these, as I wouldn't buy a different type of space heater.UUPDATE: I dropped my rating from 5 to 4 for 2 reasons. The main reason is that unlike the first unit of this model I bought (several years ago), this one makes an audible clicking noise when the thermostat goes on or off. The other reason is that the earlier version has a third mode called "Eco" that we like, but this new one does not.
