This review is from: Solid Brass Jewelry Box Catch (Misc.)
I just installed the Brusso solid brass jewelry box catch in a small box project and I'm really impressed with the simple, but solid design of this item. At first, I was a little hesitant to purchase the catch because of the fact that it has to be inset into a mortise that spans the lid and the main body of the box. However, with extra attention and care put into set-up of the jig and adjustment of the router, things went just fine. I couldn't be more pleased with the final result. On making a jig for routing, I first went to the Brusso site for assistance and information. The instructions at that site were a bit hard to follow, and it took me awhile to realize that their instructions were intended for a jig that included a brass template that they sold for about $38. As I'm not into doing a production run, I decided to make my own template and save more than the cost of the catch alone. If you take careful measurements with the particular router bit and bushing combination you choose, it is not that difficult to make a jig that is more than adequate for one-time use. Rockler sent me the catch well within the promised delivery window, and they were good enough to sell this item without shipping/handling charges (at least during the holiday ordering season).
