This great coach sets a high standard for all of us., September 24, 1998
This review is from: On Solid Ground (Hardcover)
Nothing is held back by this unique, wonderful, spiritual, brilliant and humble Coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. In this book Tom Osborne talks openly about the many problems facing the team during the 1995 season. Problems which would have driven most coaches out of the profession. Coach Osborne and the team took a real beating from the Media that year. A Media which went for sensationalism rather than truth. The Media owes this fine gentleman an apology. If I were a parent of an outstanding football player who was being highly recruited, I know where I'd want my son to go to school. Coach Osborne set an example that will remain at Nebraska for decades, no matter who coaches. The book covers one year of football, but a lifetime of experience.

A good first-person account of Nebraska football., July 24, 1998

This is a good book because you hear from someone in the program what it is like. That is, you don't have to trust the media and the biased sportswriters to let you know what is going on at Nebraska. On the down side, the book is only about one season, 1995. While it gives this book clarity and focus, the book is dated by now. It would be great to see a book covering more of Coach Osborne's career. I have also read: "I played for Coach Osborne," By B. Schaller "One final pass," By Arthur Lindsay

A great look into the heart of Nebraska football., March 11, 1998

Tom Osborne proves that it is his heart and soul which have brought him such great success as a college football coach. He takes us through one of his toughest seasons ever, both on and off the field. If more people read this book they wouldn't believe the hype of Tom Osborne being a "win at all costs coach", rather they would see him as he is - a simple, caring, religious man with a love for football and the kids he coaches. The sports world could use a few more role models like Dr. Tom.
