Book Description

September 18, 2002 3540639136 978-3540639138 1
Spectroscopic methods have opened up a new horizon in our knowledge of solid-state materials. Numerous techniques using electromagnetic radiation or charged and neutral particles have been invented and worked out to a high level in order to provide more detailed information on the solids. In this text, new radiation sources like lasers and synchrotrons are discussed. It provides a description of the linear response together with the basic principles and the technical background for various scattering experiments. Fourier transform spectroscopy, pulsed and magnetic NMR techniques, photo-emission, and light and electron scattering are elucidated. Each chapter includes problems. The concept of this textbook is designed for graduate students.

Editorial Reviews

Review

On the 1st edition:

PHYSICALIA "The fundamental idea of introducing students to a variety of different spectroscopic techniques is excellent and the book is a potential text for a course taught at the senior level or graduate level in a physics, chemistry, or materials science program. Each chapter is followed by several problems which should prove useful for teaching purposes...The reader will find extensive and up-to-date bibliography and references, as well as several appendices."

CELLULAR & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY "This book gives an excellent overview on the most common techniques in use as well as in biophysics, in biochemistry and in cellular and molecular biology"
