Heavy, sturdy, and easy to put together,

The package came in two pieces and was considerably heavy so I would recommend a second person to help move things around. Once the pieces are taken out of the box, it's pretty easy to put together. The roof piece was the heaviest item and that adds to the sturdiness of the pieces. The shed looks good and is functional. A little small for putting a lawn mower in, but perfect for plant pots, yard tools, and other miscellaneous outdoor type items. Of the three sheds I've had (1 from Rubbermaid and 1 from Suncast), I prefer this one from Brookstone. Just wish it was a bit larger. Otherwise, it's great!

Overall a good shed for the price (minus delivery charges, of course)...,

I just received this shed today, in two boxes, about 186 pounds total. I'm 37, 5"4' female, and I had absolutely no problems putting this shed together by myself. You just need a little patience and an electric drill really helps (although for a couple of screws you may need a phillips screwdriver for the deeper set-in screws). It took a couple of hours but I took my time adjusting it so that the ground was flat first. I used patio stones as a base and made sure they were level first. The roof really is the heaviest part and some folks may need help lifting this on their own (my guess is that it's about 30-35 pounds). Everything fits together very well and there is a small two-shelf system that you may not want to install because of the space it takes up. My only grudge with this shed is how the rear wall attaches to the frame - the rear wall consists of two sections that connect with dowels and wood screws and then that now single panel (made of the two panels) attaches to the frame/ rear with screws on the side and just one at the top center and one at the bottom center. Meaning if you put too much pressure on the center rear of the wall from the inside, it will bulge out a bit. Nice shed, I love the all wood, but definitely not meant to survive constant wracking. By the way, once the shed is completely put together, it's still light enough to move. It is made to sit about 1.5" above the patio stones above its base. The only advice I would add is this: make sure you have the shed set exactly flat and where you want it first. Make sure the doors are where you want them and they move freely and are positioned correctly on their hinges. After being completely sure you have the shed where you want it and as flat and level as it can possibly be, THEN put on the door latch and brackets (there are two brackets). If you try to adjust the shed AFTER the latch has been screwed on, you may find that you have to adjust the latch brackets by unscrewing and rescrewing them on in a new place. Do it too many times and you'll have way too many holes to deal with! Overall, I love the shed! I will probably add a water sealer to it just to make it last longer and maybe a few more wood screws here and there.

Best lookin' little shed :),

We just helped my folks put together 3 of these (we're waiting for our one to arrive ;) ) and I have to say that they look fabulous, they have tounge in groove construction on the walls to keep out moisture and bugs, the interior is roomy (I do agree with the reviewer that noted they could be a little bigger (deeper I suspect)) and they look a heck of a lot nicer than the big plastic one we've been hiding in the back of our yard.Easy to put together, if you're strong enough, you can do it on your own, but put packages are large and heavy (be warned!) ... delivery is arranged through local freight due to size and weight so you won't have to worry about coming home to 300 pounds of shed on your doorstep! :) Great product! (if the shed was 6-10 inches deeper, it'd get 5 stars)

This item is a great buy. I was able to assemble it myself in about 1 1/2 hours. The only tool you need is a drill with a phillips head. It looks just like the picture and you will not be disapointed. The only draw back to it is the shipping fee. Ouch!

worth the wait...,

After what seemed like forever and a day, I finally recieved this delivery. You would think for the price your hit up for shipping you would get it within a reasonable time but in any event it was worth the wait. Very easy to put together (took less then an hour with two people), sturdy, spacious and attractive. I have a very small yard and this fit perfectly into the space without over powering my garden. Does not fit a push lawn mower nor does it fit a standard size outdoor chair but awesome for everything else. I did stain and weatherproof it and bought new hardware to make it match my decor. For the price (minus the shipping) this is by far the niceset looking shed I've seen on the market.

Size matters,

Where is Amazon Prime when you could really use it--for example, when the cost of shipment is a third of the cost of the item? In any case, Brookstone's was just about the only "non-garish" shed I was able to find for the back yard. But I'm thinking of replacing it. Not because of defects or dissatisfaction with appearance or quality--but because of size. Don't underestimate the amount of space required to house those few "odds and ends," such as a power mower, rakes, gas cans, a hose. I'm able to squeeze it all in, but it's tight, requiring practice and experimentation--and the weight of a power mower makes it a physical pain to get everything adjusted in position prior to successful closure of the door. Like a salesman for flat screen TVs, my advice is: Get the biggest you can afford! But don't be surprised if that sort of advice leads you to serious consideration of the item you assumed you couldn't afford--a full-sized garage. Chances are the cost difference between the two enclosures will seem less than ever, since the Brookstone sheds incl. postage are not cheap. And while I'm mulling the decision about whether to go for the next larger size, I can hear my car in the background chanting: "Forget the shed; get the garage!" Since driving has become cost-prohibitive, the old Ford probably deserves better accommodations during its forced retirement. Maybe it's time to pressure Bezos to offer garages through Amazon Prime.Postscript: If your experience in construction is limited (mine never went beyond the erector sets I had as a kid), assemblage of Brookstone's enclosure is not the "snap" that other reviewers have suggested it is. Be prepared to devote 4+ hours to the project and, if you're fortunate to find someone, to avail yourself of the services of an energetic and enterprising youth. |
