SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial is written to assist students, designers, engineers and professionals. The book provides a introduction to the user interface, menus, toolbars, concepts and modeling techniques of SolidWorks to create parts, assemblies and drawings.

Follow the step-by-step instructions and develop multiple assemblies that combine over 80 extruded machined parts and components. Formulate the skills to create, modify and edit sketches and solid features. Learn the techniques to reuse features, parts and assemblies through symmetry, patterns, copied components, design tables and configurations.

Desired outcomes and usage competencies are listed for each project. Know your objective up front. Follow the steps in Project 1 through Project 4 to achieve your design goals. Work between multiple documents, features, commands and custom properties that represent how engineers and designers utilize SolidWorks in industry.

The projects contain exercises which analyze and examine usage competencies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book for the classroom or new user, April 7, 2006
This review is from: SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial (Paperback)
I`m a CAD instructor for a large Community College in the Southeast. September 2005 was the first time that I used SolidWorks. SolidWorks is a great 3D CAD tool. My experience is primarily with AutoCAD, 5 plus years.

I have three freshmen sections of SolidWorks with an average of 25 students per section. The book that I used for the class was poorly written, and did not provide the needed engineering insight nor the step by step instructions that the students required in a 45 minute classroom environment.

I purchased numerous books, (too many) to review for my next year class starting in September 2006. The SolidWorks Tutorial book by Planchard & Planchard provides an excellent overview and a great step by step procedure on 3D sketches, features; Extruded Base/Boss, Extruded Cut, Dome, Revolved, Circular Pattern, Hole Wizard, etc., and drawings; dimensions and annotations, document properties, notes, Exploded view, Bill of Materials, Section View, Detail view, etc.

The book walks you through combining parts into sub-assemblies, then into assemblies, and then into drawings with multiple sheets.

Read the book, look at the illustrations and follow the steps. It's that easy! This is a great book either for the classroom or for a new user.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Package for the beginner, April 25, 2006
This review is from: SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial (Paperback)
The SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial is a must have book for your arsenal, if you are a new user to SolidWorks or an Instructor teaching a first year class using SolidWorks.

This book came highly rated to me. Thank you very much T. R. Brian. The book is written wonderful, and provides great step by step procedures with illustrations to strengthen the documentation and learning process.

The authors do an outstanding job in covering, explaining, and documenting the learning procedure for this software package. The book covers sketching concepts, modeling techniques, and documentation control. In no time, you are creating parts, sub-assemblies, assemblies and drawings with multi sheets and views.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solidworks 2006, May 12, 2007
This review is from: SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial (Paperback)
The book is ok for a beginner. An attempt to publish a book on surface modelling would be appreciated.
