Product Description

From the Manufacturer

What is Solio?
Now, the energy of the sun can be harnessed and placed right in a pocket, purse, or backpack--thanks to the remarkable power of Solio.

Solio is a portable, renewable power source that draws energy from sunlight, storing it in an internal battery and using it to charge your Apple iPod. How Solio Works
Solio features a fan-blade design that allows it to achieve maximum solar area when in use. Just spread out the blades, expose them to direct sunlight either out of doors or affixed to a window, and get ready to take your power on the road.

Just the Facts

  • Charging Solio's internal battery takes 8-10 hours of direct sunlight.*
  • With Solio fully charged, an average mobile phone will charge in approximately one to two hours--as efficiently as a conventional charger.
  • Using the included wall adapter, Solio can be fully charged in approximately 5.5 hours.
  • A fully charged Solio will completely charge an average cell phone at least once.
  • When charging a cell phone directly from the sun, 60 minutes of sunlight will provide approximately 10 minutes of talk time and four hours of standby time.*
  • When charging an iPod directly from the sun, one hour of sunlight will provide one hour of play time.*
  • Solio can store energy for more than one year.
*Performance figures vary among device manufacturers, intensity of sunlight, and ambient temperatures.

Product Description

iPod owners now have something more to feel happy about! Use solar energy to power your iPod, cell-phone or other portable device. The concept of taking free energy from the sun to power your iPod simply makes sense, whether you intend to spend a long weekend at the beach or simply require mobile power for that long commute. Harnessing solar power to recharge your iPod, mobile phone, and several other handheld electronic devices, is now possible with Better Energy Systems' Solio. Solio uses a 1600mAh lithium ion battery and charges at the same rate as the iPod's normal charger and will store enough charge to extend the playtime of your iPod 40GB to about 9-10 hours. Solio works on all 3G and 4G models including the iPod mini. Activating the 5.8 ounce weather-proof Solio is as simple as attaching a cable and pressing a button. Its unique fan blade design allows it to achieve maximum solar area when in use, and to fold compactly to the size of an average mobile phone when stored. When there's no sunlight, the Solio can be plugged into its dedicated wall charger to recharge its internal battery. So whether you're environmentally conscious, searching for independent sources of energy, or just want more available power for your iPod, Solio is a must-have accessory to own and appreciate.

4.0 out of 5 stars (semi) free electricity is nice!, September 19, 2005

This review is from: Solio Solar-Powered Charger and Battery for iPod (Sports)
$100 bucks worth of electricity would buy you alot of charges, so you obviously dont buy a device like this for that. But the comfort of an extra power source is kind of nice. It gives you approximatly 7-9 hours of extra power. Most party's should end before your pod does. Otherwise, If you do not need this kind of flexibilty then a $15 car charger should fill all your needs. You can also buy different cords for different devices like cellphones and PDA's. you can even charge it from the wall instead of by solar power if needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars For when there is no other power source, October 27, 2005

This is obviously not for everyone. Most people aren't going to need it, and can just use AC or DC power instead. This is primarily for those who need a power source. For example, when I took a week long hike on Isle Royale, there is no electricity to be had. With this, I could charge during the day, and keep my iPod working at night. I can use this for all of my hiking trips, where there is no other option for charging a battery, and it is great. But, if your trips take you to hotel rooms and 12 volt outlets, it's better just to get the charging cord you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for international travel, July 27, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Solio Solar-Powered Charger and Battery for iPod (Sports)
I took my solio to europe this summer and it was perfect. I could charge both my camera and iPod with out buying an adaperter to fit in international plugs. It also saved me much needed room in my backpack by eliminating the need for several chargers.
