If you're a VNV fan you really need this CD.Not only does it include some great remixes of Solitary, but as the other reviewer mentioned, it has a version of Forsaken with vocals. Forsaken from Praise the Fallen frankly isn't one of my favorites, but the strength of the vocals and lyrics (as is typical with VNV Nation) make it go from "pretty good" to "omg". Very well worth the purchase.

My tastes have changed over the years, but I could never leave VNV Nation behind. They have a way of touching the deepest parts of my soul, with every new album they come out with, the more I fall in love. This CD in particular will forever hold a place in my heart. Solitary is one of the most amazing, energizing songs I've ever heard in my lifetime (Sung live by the band is even more amazing). The reason I bought this CD, however, was for the vocal version of Forsaken, a song that I was first introduced to days after September 11th, set to a montage of 9-11 images. I couldn't stop the tears. I searched for it for years. This song is tattooed in my brain and I was thrilled to finally have tracked it down. It was worth every penny I spent.

Any doubts I held about VNV Nation's greatness have been quickly removed by this EP. Despite the EP having three different versions of the same song on it, I still enjoy listening to the EP as an album, without hitting 'skip' on any of the tracks. The difficulty in finding a copy of this EP is well justified.

VNV has quite recently became a electronica dance favourite of mine since listening to the 'Futureperfect' album. This mini album is the 'Solitary' EP. One of a few outstanding traits of this EP is the artwork and the inclusion of some frankly spectacular lyrics. VNV has some of the best lyrics around, if you don't believe me check out a earlier song 'Holding On' and you will be a convert. The highlight for me was the inclusion of the Vocal version of the song 'Forsaken'. All I can is stutter, wow! The first short song of the EP is also great with a build up that any listener will expect something big to happen. And it does. This CD has 3 versions of the 'Solitary' song, a Signals version, a Disco version and a remix by Wumpscut which is raw and dark for fans of dark electronica.
This EP is a must for any bona-fide VNV Nation fan. |
