Jackson Browne sounds good with our without his band,

This is so good I can't stop listening to it. His commentary is as wonderful as his music and I didn't even know I was a Jackson Browne fan. I bought this because I found out he wrote "These Days" and I wanted to own his version. I am so glad I did.

I am a singer-songwriter. When I played the first track, "The Barricades Of Heaven," I was in Heaven. The sound of his guitar first got me, then the sound of his voice and that song! Then, one of my top 5 songs of all time was next, "These Days!" This version is the best ever. No kidding, just this man and his guitar is the best. As one who plays guitar, I can truthfully say that he is a fabulous player. It sounds simple but it's not. His tone is impeccable, as well. I don't know how they get that tone but whatever they do, they do it well. And then of course, his piano playing, to me, is just as awesome because he does not overplay. He plays enough licks to get the song across and that's it. Which I like. I want to hear the song, not Liberace.
I have played these cd's continuously for a week now. I am drawn to his style of writing. He is a master wordsmith, so poetic. And deep. I like his darkness. He has something more upbeat now and then but I am drawn to his writing. Kind of like I feel about much of Neil Young's work. Dark can be wonderful! And he spices up his playing with humorous banter with the audience. Very charismatic! If you want to hear a great songwriter in his most intimate playing, just him and a guitar or piano, it doesn't get any better than this!

it's a softer side of jackson browne....solo with just a guitar or sometimes a piano. lots of talking with the live audience, but he tells history of the songs and some bio. kinda funny. this double cd is worth the money. i'd buy it again for me. i bought it for a gift for a good friend, too. 2 of my favorite songs are 'never stop' and 'morroco' on the 2nd cd.
