Jackson Browne sounds good with our without his band,

This is so good I can't stop listening to it. His commentary is as wonderful as his music and I didn't even know I was a Jackson Browne fan. I bought this because I found out he wrote "These Days" and I wanted to own his version. I am so glad I did.

As good as it gets for a guy and a guitar/piano,

I am a singer-songwriter. When I played the first track, "The Barricades Of Heaven," I was in Heaven. The sound of his guitar first got me, then the sound of his voice and that song! Then, one of my top 5 songs of all time was next, "These Days!" This version is the best ever. No kidding, just this man and his guitar is the best. As one who plays guitar, I can truthfully say that he is a fabulous player. It sounds simple but it's not. His tone is impeccable, as well. I don't know how they get that tone but whatever they do, they do it well. And then of course, his piano playing, to me, is just as awesome because he does not overplay. He plays enough licks to get the song across and that's it. Which I like. I want to hear the song, not Liberace.
I have played these cd's continuously for a week now. I am drawn to his style of writing. He is a master wordsmith, so poetic. And deep. I like his darkness. He has something more upbeat now and then but I am drawn to his writing. Kind of like I feel about much of Neil Young's work. Dark can be wonderful! And he spices up his playing with humorous banter with the audience. Very charismatic! If you want to hear a great songwriter in his most intimate playing, just him and a guitar or piano, it doesn't get any better than this!

it's a softer side of jackson browne....solo with just a guitar or sometimes a piano. lots of talking with the live audience, but he tells history of the songs and some bio. kinda funny. this double cd is worth the money. i'd buy it again for me. i bought it for a gift for a good friend, too. 2 of my favorite songs are 'never stop' and 'morroco' on the 2nd cd.

I bought this collection to round out my now complete Jackson Browne collection, and was not at all surprised to find this wholly enjoyable. Despite being 'the same ol' songs' it sounds fresh, and Browne's interactive dialouge with the crowd is both informative and witty. He does not hold back on playing songs from his whole catalog and playing plenty of them. His voice carries the feel of his songs so well that I sometimes forget that the music isn't there. He accomodates the songs to fit the instrumentation perfectly, not shying away from his more electric material, like: Somebody's Baby, In The Shape Of A Heart, Enough Of The Night, etc... . I would recommend this to fans both old and new; to me it's just more proof that Jackson Browne is the greatest singer-songwriter ever.

Something Different,

I am a huge Jackson Browne fan and have all of his CD's that utilize his back-up bands (they vary from CD to CD). So I thought I would try something different, and order his acoustic 2 disc set for some laid-back listening. It was very peaceful; I also enjoyeded listening to his his dialogues with audience members. For now, I'll stick with the orchestrated CDs as my preference, but a complete Jackson Browne collection should contain these acoustic contributions.

43+ Years performing and His voice still "goes on and makes a Joyful Sound".
Solo Acoustic Vol's 1 and 2 are spectacular, as most performers voices dont stand the test of time, Jacksons is timeless and unfaltering. From the Opening chords of "Barricades of Heaven" to the the poinient "For a Dancer" his heart appears in every single song. He has a wry sense of Humor and it shows on many of the introductions. Weather you are taken in by his Political ways or not, his songs tend to inspire you to pause and think of their content and heed the messages in each. Disc 2 Begins with a Love story "Never Stop" that most people can somehow apply to someone in their life, and thats the reality behind his music, he has always written about "the moment" and those moments can apply to all. Either behind the guitar or at the Piano, His Music is embraces love, inspires emotion, invokes anger, and prays for change. I see these 2 discs as an incredible addition to a career not complete. Make room on the shelf for the future as Jackson Brown will still be around for a long time to tell his stories.

This is perhaps te finest collection available of Jackson Browne's genius. It's more than just a compilation of "Greatest Hits". The acoustic performances are outstanding and the repore between artist and audience is wonderful. If you enjoy Jackson Browne and his music, then do yourself the favor of adding this gem to your collection...you WILL NOT regret it!

If you're a JB fan you will love the purity of these renditions of his songs. I love his band, but there's something beautifully basic about just him and the guitar and piano. "The Pretender" is a favorite of mine but all songs have a soulful feel to them different from what I've felt on other albums of his. A must have for the Jackson Browne collector.

A groupie now,

I saw Jackson Browne live for the first time in August 2010 at RedRocks in Colorado. I have to be honest and say that I can't stop listening to him every day since then. This CD set is excellent and brings out another side of Jackson. I'm looking forward to attending a future solo acoustic concert. I just have to BE there.
