Celebrate the joy of Sheila E. 's true musical heritage., July 5, 1999

This review is from: Solo Two / Happy Together (Audio CD)
Often an artist peaks early in their careers, but not Pete and Sheila E. From this tamale dipped in Latin funk and spicy salsa this pair proves that family is where the heart and talent blossoms. This musical journey will lead you into the true talent of Sheila E. before the "Glamorous Life". Sheila 's blazing solo on "Solo Tu " marks the spark that made her one of the most demanded session percussionist. Billy Cobham and Pete mix Afro-cuban and eccentric rythms into a multi-layered percussion jam that reeks with enough funk to blow the barrio. It is interisting to note Pete and Sheila E.'s vocals blend very well together. It leaves you wondering when will Sheila will release some tracks with some Spanish vocals with Pete and really let loose. Billy Cobham's powerful striking of the drum is not lost in the playful bantering between the first Father and Daughter jam. Hint! Sheila and Pete it is time to do another release with some heavy Latin pounding to the bata drums. Maybe an release of tribal music! Monfetifum Songo! Monfetifum Obba! This is a collectors item! Just to hear Sheila E rip the top off the drums is proof that Prince did not discover Sheila E. Sheila 's star was already blazing.
