5.0 out of 5 stars The Reason Sound turns to Craving, August 30, 2010

This review is from: Solo (Audio CD)
It took me too long to get my hands on this album because of a little word called "import." i really wish it had a stateside selection, an MP3 download, or some other variation that would have allowed me to move some other direction that didn't sound like "CD." Still, I wanted Heppner's work so bad that I weas willing to sell portions of my soul to get it - what was a little piece of checking discomfort compared to the likes of that voice?

When you hear Hepner, you may not recognize the voice right away but this is the sound of Wolfsheim coming through your radio. You can hear a nice sample of it with Schiller when you listen to "i feel you;" I love that song so much that I cannot help but be moved by it each and every time I hear it. And Wolfsheim - I really cannot say enough good things about them. They have taken sad songs and made me want to weep (the folk song that they did early on that talk about snowy fields and losing a love - it felt like I was hurting with him), and they have taken happy songs and made me feel good. Wedding bliss, the call of the ocean; it was all there. So, a solo album - nice.

The problem with this album is not in the thing itself. It is in getting it. Good luck if you want it badly - I wanted it and had to wait and wait. Still,t here are some nice amazon outlets that give it to you. And, believe me, it is worth it. The outlet you plug into with the sound and the vocals colliding tastes a little like audio heaven. Different tempos, different feels but only one outcome - pefection.
Sheer perfection.

Forgive me for that little rant there but, honestly, this is a grand thing. I LOVE having it and would suggest getting it before the out of print monster hits it. Otherwise, you have to wait for another printing - that happens sometimes but not that often - or it becomes the Moby dick of the audio world.
So, land the white whale when its just a baby. You really don't wanna limp like Ahab.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Solo (Audio CD)
Peter Heppner is the front man for Wolfsheim. And as the title of this album explains it all. Solo is just Peter Heppner and about time he has been featured on many songs with the likes of Joachim Witt and Paul Van Dyk but i have looked forward to a album of just music by him and it does not dissapoint the music has a great modern european appeal to it. And for a singer that has produced so great music over the last 20 years i think the best is yet to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Out On His Own...At Last!, August 2, 2011

Peter Heppner, one half of the now defunct duo Wolfsheim, has stepped out with a classy solo effort that shows how much he has grown as an artist since teaming up with his now erstwhile partner, Markus Rhinehart in 1987. With seven albums to their credit, all worthwhile, Peter Heppnner came out with one of the best album releases of 2008. In fact, the week of it's release in Germany it debuted at #9 on the German charts.
All but three of the songs are written and sung in English. The single "Alleinesein" which in German is a phrase which means "Out on my own" is abtly suited to represent the struggles that Peter went through to get this album released.

Like most genuine artists, Heppner is vastly underrated, even in his homeland Germany. This album is not available everywhere, but I know for a fact that I am not the only one who literally had to move Heaven, Hell, Hades and Valhalla to get my hands on a copy. I am in the US and my copy shipped from Austria. It was well worth the expence, (import fees, shipping to US), the search and ultimately the find. Along the way to this treasure I met some wonderful people online with wonderful stories of Peter.
Because Peter had to travel out of Germany for the production of most of this album, he teamed up with Peter Vettesse, a prodigy musician in his own right who has become a very successful ( as well as great, the two are not always synonomous these days) producer of many of todays artists.
This is the first of what I hope will be many great albums from this newly minted team.
