Since nobody has reviewed this disc, I'll do the service: I have this CD, and it's one of my favorites. It features the wonderful Teddy Wilson on solo stride piano. These sides were cut c.1939-40 in NYC, and were previously unreleased on CD. Wilson's estate made the old 78s available to Storyville. These are great tracks featuring some classic standards and some Wilson originals. Wilson (along with Nat Cole) was one of the last great stride pianists: this just before Theolonius Monk and Oscar Peterson began swinging and bopping hard. Wilson's style recalls Jellyroll Morton and James P. Johnson--but more advanced. Wilson's technique is very fine. Disc timing is good.
It's not a cheap disc, but it's for aficianados who will settle for nothing less than the absolute best: it's worth every little penny!
