2.0 out of 5 stars what a disappointment, February 6, 2003
I had such high hopes for Solange. After numerous praises by Kelly Rowland and her sister Beyonce I was expecting a lot. I also had such high hopes 'cause of her song writing and producing credits. I also found out that she worked with a number of impressive talents on SOLO STAR. Production credits and writing credits are given to such high-profile names as Timbaland, The Neptunes, and even Linda Perry. Taking all of that into consideration, I expected a lot.

I was totally let down after l listened to SOLO STAR. I should've known that Solonge's age got the best of her instead of the many talents that took part in this project. SOLO STAR is very immature, and surprisingly bland. Even the Timbaland track "get together" doesn't hold up at all. The only worthy song on this CD is "crush", which the Neptunes produced. The rest of SOLO STAR is a downright mess.

Most songs range from OK to downright bad. I think Solange should take a few years to develop herself more as a songwriter/producer before calling the shots. Now on to her vocals. Sonlange has a nice voice. She can carry a note and you can defiantly feel what she's saying on songs like "crush". The only other worthy song is "feelin' you (part 2)", and a close 3rd place would have to be "sky away".

SOLO STAR contains a bunch of hidden tracks after "sky away" but none of them are worth mentioning. SOLO STAR is a big let down.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD, June 13, 2004
By Jamaal (New jersey) - See all my reviews
I this Solange's Solo Star is a great and fun cd. If you compare it to other teen singers, its a very brilliant andoutstanting cd. The fact that she wrote most of the song on the cd is very remarkable. i give her much credit. I found that her cd is alot better than her sister Beyonce. Beyonce's album has to many slow songs which brings down the album. Dont get me wrong I love Beyonce dearly. Some of my fav songs are, Feelin You, Aint No Way, Dance With you, Get together, Crush, So Be It (My fav song off the whole album..... it shows of all her vocal talents.... the alto's, Sopranos everything)Wonderland (which is another on of my fav's.... its a very fun song.... good to dance to.... she should have made a video for it.), This Could Be Love, Solo Star, I used to..... all the hidden songs arnt very good but thats alright because the rest of the CD was great..............Im not to impressed with the picture on the front of the album... it doesnt make her look attractive. I incourage every1 to buy it, only if u are into fun and active music.... if you arnt there is no point in getting in it... but overall very well put together

3.0 out of 5 stars Bright Debut, But No Star, January 23, 2003
Solange's debut cd Solo Star has come with a little bit more anticipation than most people's first record. Being the little sister of superstar Beyonce Knowles means you have some big shoes to fill. And Solange pulls the feat off nicely, but leaves room for some improvement. Solange, who has a nice voice, seems to be using this disc as practice to find out what all her voice can do. She hits the high notes and the low notes in many of the wrong places which leaves me to believe that a couple years of practice would have given her a much more stellar debut. With this compilation, Solange shows she is nothing more than the average r&b singer who can get more attention because her sis is famous; which would explain the rush on her debut while Beyonce is still planted so firmly in the limelight. I think many people will like this effort. There are certainly some good songs on it. The highlights include Feelin' You (Part 2 featuring N.O.R.E.), Dance With You (Featuring B2K), Get Together, Thinkin' About You (Featuring Murphy Lee Of The St. Lunatics) and Solo Star. Sadly as you can see like most r&b/pop stars today, she'll take all the help from other artists she can get. I encourage everyone who plans on buying this cd to keep in mind what a great star Solange might be one day, but with this disc she just isn't it yet. Also, if you like Solange, I reccomend picking up Nivea's debut cd which is much better in my opinion.
