5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD
I this Solange's Solo Star is a great and fun cd. If you compare it to other teen singers, its a very brilliant andoutstanting cd. The fact that she wrote most of the song on the cd is very remarkable. i give her much credit. I found that her cd is alot better than her sister Beyonce. Beyonce's album has to many slow songs which brings down the album. Dont get me wrong I...

2.0 out of 5 stars what a disappointment, February 6, 2003
This review is from: Solo Star (Audio CD)
I had such high hopes for Solange. After numerous praises by Kelly Rowland and her sister Beyonce I was expecting a lot. I also had such high hopes 'cause of her song writing and producing credits. I also found out that she worked with a number of impressive talents on SOLO STAR. Production credits and writing credits are given to such high-profile names as Timbaland, The Neptunes, and even Linda Perry. Taking all of that into consideration, I expected a lot.

I was totally let down after l listened to SOLO STAR. I should've known that Solonge's age got the best of her instead of the many talents that took part in this project. SOLO STAR is very immature, and surprisingly bland. Even the Timbaland track "get together" doesn't hold up at all. The only worthy song on this CD is "crush", which the Neptunes produced. The rest of SOLO STAR is a downright mess.

Most songs range from OK to downright bad. I think Solange should take a few years to develop herself more as a songwriter/producer before calling the shots. Now on to her vocals. Sonlange has a nice voice. She can carry a note and you can defiantly feel what she's saying on songs like "crush". The only other worthy song is "feelin' you (part 2)", and a close 3rd place would have to be "sky away".

SOLO STAR contains a bunch of hidden tracks after "sky away" but none of them are worth mentioning. SOLO STAR is a big let down.

Dont get me wrong I love Beyonce dearly. Some of my fav songs are, Feelin You, Aint No Way, Dance With you, Get together, Crush, So Be It (My fav song off the whole album..... it shows of all her vocal talents.... the alto's, Sopranos everything)Wonderland (which is another on of my fav's.... its a very fun song.... good to dance to.... she should have made a video for it.), This Could Be Love, Solo Star, I used to..... all the hidden songs arnt very good but thats alright because the rest of the CD was great..............Im not to impressed with the picture on the front of the album... it doesnt make her look attractive. I incourage every1 to buy it, only if u are into fun and active music.... if you arnt there is no point in getting in it... but overall very well put together

3.0 out of 5 stars Bright Debut, But No Star, January 23, 2003
This review is from: Solo Star (Audio CD)
Solange's debut cd Solo Star has come with a little bit more anticipation than most people's first record. Being the little sister of superstar Beyonce Knowles means you have some big shoes to fill. And Solange pulls the feat off nicely, but leaves room for some improvement. Solange, who has a nice voice, seems to be using this disc as practice to find out what all her voice can do. She hits the high notes and the low notes in many of the wrong places which leaves me to believe that a couple years of practice would have given her a much more stellar debut. With this compilation, Solange shows she is nothing more than the average r&b singer who can get more attention because her sis is famous; which would explain the rush on her debut while Beyonce is still planted so firmly in the limelight. I think many people will like this effort. There are certainly some good songs on it. The highlights include Feelin' You (Part 2 featuring N.O.R.E.), Dance With You (Featuring B2K), Get Together, Thinkin' About You (Featuring Murphy Lee Of The St. Lunatics) and Solo Star. Sadly as you can see like most r&b/pop stars today, she'll take all the help from other artists she can get. I encourage everyone who plans on buying this cd to keep in mind what a great star Solange might be one day, but with this disc she just isn't it yet. Also, if you like Solange, I reccomend picking up Nivea's debut cd which is much better in my opinion.

I absolutely HATE this CD. There are NO good songs at all. She's trying to become a superstar at age 14. Her songs are pointless and stupid. If you like complete trash, then I suggest you buy this CD. If you like REAL music, forget it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Hating!!!, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Solo Star (Audio CD)
Omg There Are So Many People Who Are Up In Here Hating On Solange And Giving Her Low Ratings Just Because She's Beyonce's Sister, Shame On You. This Is Solange's First Cd Which She Recorded Around The Ages Of Only 15 And 16 Years Old. Solange Wrote And Produced Almost Every Song On The Album(@ Only 16 Years Old)! Solange Has A Good Voice For Her Age, She's Was Only 16 When She Recorded This Album So She Can Only Get Better. Vocally Shes A Soprano With A Relaxing Voice, She Can Sing Really Good Compared To Alot Of The Lil Female Artist That Are Out Now. Solange Doesn't Have A Blow Me Away Type Voice But She Definately Can Sing!!! This Girl Is A Professionally Trained Dancer And Can Dance A Hole In The Ground(Seriously), But Due To No Air Play On The Radio And No Major Tv Performances No 1 Has Ever Saw Her Show Off Those Skillz. Solange Writes,Sings,Arranges Vocals, Produces,Dances Professionally, And Is An Up And Coming Actress, She Represents A True Artist. Her Music Is Fun, I Can Play The Cd Straight Through I Only Skip 1 Song. Cop It U Wont B Disapointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like this cd but it was not that good, October 15, 2004
This review is from: Solo Star (Audio CD)
Maybe it's just my age but this cd was defintely on the children's side. The Lyrics were very bubbly and kind of cheesy. And so were some of the beats. The songs I do like are Feelin You,Feel Good Song, Crush, SkyAway and Naive. The rest were just ok and some where really corny. I think this cd will only be appealing to Middle School girls. There are alot of tracks on this cd but more effort should have been put into the music and lyrics. Sorry Solange, I don't think your ready to go solo yet.

TeRrIbLe!!! Do not even get the 95 cent copy they are selling on Amazon.com. It is a complete waste of money. It is one of those cds where you say if It wasn't for her sister or her father she would have stayed undiscovered. I

5.0 out of 5 stars solange, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Solo Star (Audio CD)
I remember this album when I was in the 10th grade. I love this album it is enjoyable mostly for teenagers. This album has a vibe that is contagious. Solo Star is an eclectic and exciting musical experience, delivered by a gifted and blessed young woman. This album is about being true to yourself and your own vision. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2003.
