Biography

Hailing from the small city of Jonkoping, Sweden, Loney Dear's primary member Emil Svanängen first began recording homemade, overdubbed tapes of delicate, folkish indie pop in the early 2000s. As Loney, Dear (the band has since deleted the comma from its name), Svanängen self-released three homemade CD-Rs through his website: River Fontana Redux, Citadel Band, and Sologne.

Editorial Reviews

LONEY, DEAR is a one man band with nine members, and the alter ego of multi-instrumentalist and DIY expert Emil Svanängen. In his tiny, sweltering Stockholm studio apartment, or in the cool basement of his parents house is where all the magic happens. The outside world has no idea of what's going on. Creativity explodes, an old clock walks tick-tack-tock onwards to the Loney, Dear prophesy. Two records a year is his M.O., and by new years eve of 2009, all is said to come to an end. Everything is recorded in a very modest home studio setup, using a mini disc mic and a set of headphones to avoid disturbing his neighbors. When Emil recently moved and had to get rid of his floor lamp, he finally bought his first mic stand. 10 tracks. Dear John. 2006

5.0 out of 5 stars more beautiful music, December 10, 2007
This review is from: Sologne (Audio CD)
this one takes a little bit longer to warm up to than Loney, Noir, but is nevertheless sublime in the end. both records are new to the US in 2007 (the first two have not been widely released over here): can there be a better new band this year??

3.0 out of 5 stars Subdued, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Sologne (Audio CD)
Too much so for my taste. Very quiet, one song flowing into the next without much differentiation in mood, lyrics or sound. These guys shake it up in concert. They should do so in recordings as well.
