The Barber series Solos for Young Violinists is a well-developed series and beautifully published. The negative reviews on this site all involve poor practices by Amazon (i.e., not fully identifying the level, 1-6, and not including the full 2-volume package. Music is typically published this way, with a separate violin part and a score for the pianist, and they are not to be sold separately!).

These solos start with a few quite easy songs, but very quickly the solos become much more difficult. There doesn't seem to be much for the "just a little better than rank beginner" player. That said, the music is much more satisfying than most available in books for beginning players.

As another customer review said, this package delivered quickly but without violin part. It is confusing that the left upper corner of the book says violin and piano part but inside the book says piano part, I guess Amazon shipping clerk was not aware of this should be a two book package?

This is supposed to come as 2 books - the violin, and the violin with piano. I only received the violin part. I called Amazon, but got nowhere. I also e-mailed them and received no response.

DON'T BUY THIS if you want Volume 3 with both the violin part and the piano score!!!

I purchased this and received Volume 1 with the piano part only. This is sold in music stores as a 2-book set, the violin book and the piano score. They are not including the violin book in this offer. They were fine with giving me a refund, but I'm disappointed that they haven't fixed the product information.

Wish I had read the earlier reviews. You would think Amazon would have read them, I guess not. 11/1/10 I received the incomplete set - the 2nd part (for violin), was not sent with the order. You would think Amazon would have corrected this with all of the bad reviews. Makes me really doubt doing business with Amazon in the future. I'll do business with a company that understands music like sharmusic!

I should have been warned after reading the other reviews about missing the companion violin book...

Amazon has shipped this item TWICE now without the violin part. They should not be selling this item if they cannot figure out what "Violin & Piano Parts" means.

Don't make the same mistake as I did -- save yourself some hassle and aggravation by buying from another source.

If you are buying this item used, contact the seller first to inquire about them shipping both books. Amazon's listing isn't clear to the seller that there are two books, so often times the seller is unaware that there should be two books.

I ordered this book in September. The book should come with two books. One is for violin and another one is for piano. I got one for piano. I sent email to seller twice but no response. On Amazon, when you click the link on the book, there is no information to tell you there is only one book and it is not suppose to be. I am not satisfied with seller. Hope they can correct mistake and send me another part of the book. I am looking forward them to take the action.

We ordered this book for our daughter upon the recommendation of her violin teacher. The music seemed much too difficult for her - then we noticed that it was Volume 6 of a series! Nowhere in the description of the book does it mention this is Volume 6. Looking back now, with a magnifying glass (literally), I can see volume 6 in the left-hand corner of the picture of the book. But even when you look at the front cover view, the top is cut off so you wouldn't see anything about Volume 6. We would be returning it but her teacher offered to buy it from us. Now we will go to a local store to make sure we are purchasing the correct item, which we should have done in the first place. Very misleading description.
