5.0 out of 5 stars Good ol' fashion puzzle solving, December 21, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Solstice (Video Game)
This game was possibly my favourite game to play in the NES era. you play a wizard Shadax who is on a quest to reassemble the "Staff of Demnos" before the Solstice to save Princess Eleanor from the evil Morbius.

the graphics were a sight for their time, and the music is amazing (i still get the tune stuck in my head sometimes). The puzzles are challenging and the gameplay is awesome.

which brings me to controls. The isometric layout takes a little bit to get used to, but after that it's smooth sailing. "Select" views a map and potion screen. "Start" is used to use a potion. "A" is Jump and "B" is used to pick up and drop items.

the controls are simple, but this game is challenging yet fun! it is not for the people who hate platformers, because in essence, this is a combo of block pushing and timmed jumping (along with a few leaps of faith). Definitly worth the cost!

Just Youtube "Solstice Intro".

The opening song alone should make any old-school gamer's heart melt. And the music doesn't let it. It remains good throughout the game.

The gameplay of Solstice is that of a puzzle-platformer. Your wizard's lady-friend is kidnapped and now you need to do something about it. You progress by picking up blocks, jumping on platforms, gathering keys and spells, and so forth. It uses a unique (for the time) diagonal perspective that might be tough to control.

All in all, Solstice is a solid game with a rockin' soundtrack. As crazy as it sounds, sometimes I pop in the cartridge just to hear the opening tune blast through my speakers.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a refresh..., November 21, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Solstice (Video Game)
We actually stumbled onto this game in all places of all it was on youtube. They had a video with the creators and programmers of the game. It looked so easy to play and mind blowing on the vid. What did surprise me...is the price (very cheap). I love the artwork on the cartridge, I love the music in the intro, and I love the graphics. I have tried playing this game for a couple of months now and every time I got a little further. But I saw that this was something more then just reading a manual. It's like a collaborative assignment. I had to console gamefaqs.com for a walk through. I got more then just that. This game is pushing the NES (Nintendo) to it it's limit. Just reading the intro for the game on how to control the player was mind blowing. You have this combo of attaining a block that gives you height-OH-BTW (By The Way- the screen or rooms are generally 9 by 9 squares and there are about 234 rooms-- to jump onto higher blocks. This is suppose to have no violence or more Family friendly game. When your player dies...it's just like when a Jedi dies. The cloak hits the ground. I really want to read the beginning of the FAQ to learn how to play but it seems I may have to read a little further to condition myself to the style of the game. IT IS A HARD GAME TO PLAY

-Thanks
