This manual is engaging and informative and true to Solution-Focused Theory, is less concerned with the history of theoretical development than in the actual abilty to be utilized as an effective intervention model. The book provides practical applications for Solution-Focused Counseling for the school setting. These applications are easily applied in other settings as well, from formal counseling to enhancing parent skills. Descriptive scenarios of actual interventions are included with each skill, which further enhances the practitioner's understanding and ability to apply the concepts with their own efforts. The book is well-organized and easy to reference, and Dr. Murphy's style of writing is engaging and descriptive. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to develop a foundation with strength based interventions, including teachers, counseling students, practitioners, parents and anyone else looking for an alternative to "more of the same" measures.

I have really loved this book. I am finishing my master's in counseling (school to be exact) and this book has been very helpful to me. It is short and to the point, but it still offers great examples.

I choose SFBT and Murphy describes techniques, gives case studies, and goes over the basics of the theory in a very inviting way. A must purchase if you want to learn more about this theory!
