I just melt raw ivory shea butter (purchased on Amazon too of course) and add it to Dr Bronner's castile soap along with vegetable glycerine and sweet almond oil.
Bam - a moistruizing chemical free body wash!
I've been looking for a light daily moisturizer that will not create a lot of buildup on my hair and last all day. I'd read that glycerin is a humectant so instead of being a moisturizing source it's main benefit is drawing moisture from the air and sealing it into your hair. I didn't think this would work for my hair so I'd been avoiding it. On my last order I accidentally left this in my cart :-/.
What a happy accident! Since I had it I decdied to give it a shot. I took a 4 oz spray bottle and put in maybe 3/4 oz of glycerine, then the rest filtered water. A few drops of lavender oil for scent and some Jamaican Black Castor Oil because I wanted a heavy oil to coat and protect my ends and scalp. Oh my goodness....I saw the change on first use. I usually wet my hair in the shower, wrap it in a towel for like 15 minutes after to let the water really absorb into the twists. Whip that towel off and immediately spray all over with this stuff. My scalp is well moisturized but not oily, my hair stays springy and soft all day and there's a noticeable reduction in frizz. NO BUILDUP on my hair. I thought this would be impossible with the castor oil, but I can press and squeeze these twists all I want....the oil residue on my hair is virtually nonexistent.
I LOVE this stuff. My hair is actually absorbing the oil and retaining moisture.Read more ›
Then game glycerine. I cut it with some almond oil (50/50 mixture) and applied it all over my body before bed. When I woke up I had the skin of a normal young woman, beautiful skin, and it has lasted ever since. Needless to say I am now a total glycerine addict. It's been added to my shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, face wash, body wash, etc. I mix it with rosewater for toner and with almond oil for a moisturizer. For the very first time in my life I look my age and it is all thanks to this incredible product.
If you are diligent about applying it to your dry areas twice a day you will never have thirsty skin again. I should also add that it has done wonders to moisturize and heal my boyfriend's eczema and my mother's rosacea. It's cleansing as well as moisturizing, so it should not adversely affect acne (although my skin is dry it is also very acne prone but I have not had a single breakout since using this as my moisturizer).
If you are dry absolutely anywhere then this is the potion of dreams. I know I sound like someone hired me to write this but I swear I'm just glycerine's biggest fan.

Works really well! It Makes your skin silky smooth. It doesn't have a scent so if you make your own soaps or lotions you can still add other scents to it or have it unscented. Read morePublished 1 day ago by Gigi
My oily skin is NOT a fan of glycerin at all. I break out terribly and get super oily.
I have tried adding it to many different products and a handful of homemade products as... Read more
