Poorly Proofed and Littered With Errors!,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Solutions Manual (Paperback)
This solutions manual contains *all* of the solutions to the end of chapter problems in Tinoco's Physical Chemistry (both even and odd numbered problems) However, the solutions are littered with errors, inconsistencies, miscalculations and typos. Some solutions are lengthy and others beg the reader to question, "Where did that [formula] come from???"
All-in-all its probably a necessary companion for the course, but beware of the pitfalls. The author and editors should seriously address these problems for the future edition.

Not worth the money,
This review is from: Solutions Manual (Paperback)
I'd been going through Physical Chemistry for half the semester when the course started to get extremely vague and complicated. The professor tends to assign homework problems that are more supplemental to the lecture than complimentary, so I was ending up teaching myself the necessary material to do the homework. I bought the solutions manual after this got too time consuming and frustrating, but it isn't much help with vagaries such as the answer to Chapter 6, problem 4a: "Many methods are described in the text." It isn't always straightforward, so if you're looking for a sort of push in the right direction than it might be for you. If you want answers, well, good luck digging around for them.
Edit: Since going through the manual in more detail, I'm even more astonished at how little editing or proofing must have gone into this. In Chapter 6, problem 3b Avogadro's number is printed as 6.02^2 (missing a rather important 3 there) and there are answers for 3 a-d, but in the book only problems 3 a-c are printed. Near as I can tell, answer 3d in the book corresponds to question 3c in the book, and I'm not sure where the other answer is coming from (or what question was asked). This is an awful publication and I'm surprised the authors of the book let it see the light of day.

Absolutely terrible! Many mistakes and the work was not clear. Overall, I don't rate the Tinoco textbook very high but this solutions manual just sucks in comparison.
