When I was 17 in the UK back in 1963, I used to get home around 11 pm on a Friday night. The only thing on TV (only 2 channels then) was a 15 minute weekly TV series on Special Relativity by Professor Herman Bondi. I was mezmerized and decided I wanted to study this subject at University. I found out he was a Professor of Mathematics at Kings College in London - and within weeks applied to study there. Hard work and fate smiled on me and by 1965 I was accepted. I recall the first lecture when he asked the 20 of us - "How old are you?". Someone replied "18, Sir". He responded - "you are much too old to understand this!". And after 2 years I sadly agreed he must be right.

Imagine time moving forward to 2012 and now I am reading my Kindle version of this book by Schroeder. I get to the section on Special and General Relativity and finally after an easy read of just a few pages, actually understand it.

I cannot praise this book enough. Especially the review of modern physics in 2012. I was continually impressed with how the author explained previously mysterious topics (even Vector Calculus :-)) in simple terms that left the reader delighted that they could in fact understand previously incomprehensible topics of physics. Even the historic explanations on Newtons Laws and Maxwell's Equations were brilliant and a must read for every high school math and physics teacher.

The later stages of the book introduce the reader to Higgs Field, M-Theory, string theory and even recent hypotheses which are yet to be proved or disproved. But the ideas behind the "2 branes" and "the bulk" as possible solutions to the challenge of both space and time travel are really intriguing.

This is a MUST READ for anyone wishing to get up to speed on the latest theories of modern physics.
This is a book any young budding mathematician or physicist will enjoy. The level of explanation is ideal for anyone wanting to better understand subjects like special relativity. In fact although I was fortunate to study special relativity in 1965 under Professor Herman Bondi at Kings College, London, I never really understood the basic theory. Robert Schroeder is able to explain this subject (and even prove the simple formulas) with wonderful clarity that a 16 year old high school "arts student" could comprehend. This is a breakthrough in bringing so many of the latest concepts of modern physics to the average person. I am writing this review still halfway through the book. I cannot wait to read and understand how he has built his theories of possible UFO propulsion systems upon what is a very obviously passionate and clear comprehension of the very latest theories of our CERN physicists.

Whether you want a layman's understanding of special relativity, general relativity, quantum mechanics or even learn a lttle of the latest mathematics, then this is a book for you, your husband or father.

Despite my basic background in Math, Bob does an excellent job of walking his readers through these complex math and science theories that would normally make your brain cells "surrender" and give up!

But, don't fear, Bob really does do an excellent job of making this easy for you to understand. It all starts with him splitting the book in to three categories - the real key is to start at the beginning and start there - don't jump to the back "best part" and try to start reading from there, you will be too confused!!!

Trust me, I did that, then started over at the beginning, and the second time around the book was much easier to understand when I got to the third section! :-)

Also, as an aside, Bob did a live presentation on his book (via Skype) at our local Northern California MUFON Chapter and that was an added bonus hearing him further explain the material in the book. So, if you find out that Bob is doing a live presentation in your area.... GO!

Great Info. The first part of the book: Robert shares succinct Case studies that lay down a framework for the commonalities of motion and physical properties for many of the best UFO reports. Robert draws from some of the most salient eye witness accounts and radar tracked sources to build evidence for what he thinks may be at the heart of their amazing abilities. The Next Part: Robert clearly and carefully explains the state of theoretical physics and its history. With easy to understand diagrams and a few basic equations he takes the lay reader from the discovery of gravity to the place of the Graviton in current M-Theory. Lastly, Robert shows, without a hint of any pseudoscience (something plaguing the UFO community for years) how, with the latest announcements from Cern, a stellar craft could, in theory, operate in the Bulk- an extra dimension, in which the prevalence of gravitons compresses time/space to the point of allowing a craft extreme inertial freedom and distance span compression. His findings seem to hinge on whether the LHC soon discovers what is known as Hawking Radiation. Great read!
