I purchased this harness to restrain my dog while on trips. It worked great and my dog did not seem to mind wearing it at all.

I have two beagles who are absolute terrors in the car. After a particularly harrowing drive to the kennel with them a few days ago, I ordered a pair of these harnesses with two-day shipping so that I could get them back in time for my pick-up at the kennel. I had no trouble fitting the short lead to the seat belt and the harness to the dogs. In contrast to the drive to the kennel a few days earlier, Siegfried and Tristan sat calmly and quietly, and I was able to concentrate on driving. It was safer for me and safer for them. One piece of advice: Make sure to secure the lead to the buckled LAP BELT, not the shoulder belt. The shoulder belt gives the dog way too much freedom, and if you have two of them, they will get tangled together if you use the shoulder belt. If you secure them to the LAP BELT, they set quietly, comfortably, and separately. I won't drive humans without a seat belt, I can't believe I waited so long to realize how important it is to ensure that my canine friends are also properly secured for a drive.

I bought this item b/c a previous safety belt was too confining for our dog and we wanted him to be able to move around, a little. The belt attaches to the car seat belt and our dog can still, with the seat belt on, climb to the front seat of the car, which kinda defeats the purpose of it in the first place. I've buckled it to the far seat belt fasten and still he can pull it to the front seat of the car and to sit on my lap. Could be an issue with my car seat belt just allowing too much freedom. Harness fit my beagle/bulldog who's about 35 pounds. Good idea but doesn't really work that well in my civic.

Got this for our 30 lb female Beagle mix. Took a minute to figure out just how it goes onto her body the first time out, but once understood, the fit was good and subsequent uses are a breeze. Our dog doesn't mind it a bit, she is kind of high energy, but well behaved, so initially we were a bit concerned she might hate the limits to her movement. As it turned out, she liked it and is safer. The Solvit pet safety harness provides inexpensive peace of mind for those who understand the physics of auto crashes and want the best for their pooch.

i can't say enough kind words about this productthe only suggestion i have/only thing i wish was different is the strap which attaches to the seatbelt...i really wish the harness came with two so i could have one in each car without having to take it out every time. highly recommended!!

Strange Sizing, Poorly Made, Potentially Dangerous,

We have a 30 lbs Eskie mix. The harness fit on her at it's smallest settings. We also, have a 45 lbs Aussie mix. The neck portion of the harness needed to be tightened about 80% of the way and the body portion loosened nearly all the way.Because of the padding (versus a normal harness), you really have to tighten down the harness to keep it from moving. Even then, padding itself does not stay in place. It's not very well attached to the straps, so it can move independently. The worst part is that with even the slightest pressure, the body straps pull right out of the adjusting clip. I don't think this would keep a driven (pun indented) dog in it's seat. More over, I think it could be dangerous during an car accident. The dogs body is likely to pull free from the harness, leaving it's neck still in the harness to bear the full force of the accident. I returned mine. I'll just stick with a normal harness and a lead that clips into my seat belts.

I've always seatbelted my boys. I have two English Springer Spaniels, both right around 50 pounds. I need to know my boys are safe in the back seat so I don't have to keep looking over my shoulder to check on them, especially when the back windows are down. Before I restrained my boys in the backseat I realized how unsafe of a driver I was because I was sometimes paying more attention to the pups in the backseat than the road ahead. Not only that, if there were to be an accident I feel much better now knowing that they will not become dangerous projectiles. We've had a few different brands in the past but these are definitely some of the best-made restraints for the price. I like the padding up front on the chest so it doesn't cut in under their arms. I got mediums for both my boys. However they are almost too small. My guy who's around 52 pounds only has about 3/8" of strap outside the buckets which kind of worries me. I just have to check it each time we "truck up." The only other thing is I wish it had a few more buckles instead of the slip rings so I didn't need to put it on over their head. The neck area needs to fit well but I have to make the straps longer to get it over their heads, then readjust the straps when in place. That area adjusts with slip rings which aren't very easy to adjust when the restraint is already on the dog.

Ordered this for our new dog who loves to move all over the vehicle while I'm driving. With this safety harness our dog still has some range of motion in which to shift positions in the seat, but not enough to climb over the seat to try and sit in my lap. It goes on the dog fairly easily...once you figure out what you are doing...the clip attaches to the seat belt and the harness attaches to the clip. Easy to use, feels secure, and makes driving with our dog safer for us and her. I would definitely recommend this to all dog owners. (with appropriate sizing of course)

Its an excellent product, specially when you have a dog that moves a lot from one sit to other while you are driving. In my case it had been very useful specially when my dog was pregnant

We bought these in small and medium for our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. One is 11 lbs, one is 24 lbs. They work well, but make sure you have adjusted them well before you take your dogs out in them, as they are a bit bulky, and it's easy for them to squeeze out if not fitted correctly. That being said, if you have a slimmer dog that is right around that 20lb mark, you might want to try the smaller size first. Our bigger Cavalier, the male, is quite slim, and the medium size harness is pretty big on him. He doesn't really try to get out of it, but I fear he could slip it, even tightened all the way, if he tried. He is very slender around the neck and chest area. The smaller one, let out, fits him just fine. But if you had a stockier dog, or one with a barrel chest like one of the bully breeds, the medium would probably work just fine. The small size works great on our smaller female. She's a bit stockier than the male, and we have no problems with fitting it for her. The clip that hooks to the seatbelt is great, I love that it unscrews so you can actually attach it to the belt. This makes it easy for the dog to move around, but if you 'lock' the seatbelt, they can't go far. I suggest getting a seat cover or using a blanket you can tuck into the seats if you have leather seats, so they can't slide around as much. Other than that, we are very happy with the harness and happy to have the dogs firmly in place in the back seat and not trying to jump into the front. :) |
