I purchased this item for my 100 pound German shepherd and......he doesn't like it at all (not the product's fault, however). I like the concept and it is lightweight. It is basically made from a hard plastic with non-slip footing for the animal. It telescopes fairly easily. But.....I expected a lot more for that kind of money (I paid $107). When I opened the box, three end caps fell immediately to the ground. They will not stay in place so I had to epoxy them to cover sharp edges. I think this item is worth about half the price that I paid for it.....not a cent more. I would recommend that you spend another 40 or fifty dollars and buy an aluminum one instead. Some of the ones available are multipurpose....meaning that you can use it as a hand truck ramp, etc. Not a whole lot of engineering or otherwise went into developing this product which was......you-guessed-it, made in China!

I really like this ramp! I have a St. Bernard who has trouble getting into the back of my 4Runner at times. This ramp is great for her. If I could change anything, I'd make it a bit wider. My dog is 150 lbs and while I can see this being great for smaller dogs, extra large breeds are wider dogs so... Overall though, the width isn't that big a deal. I think, at this point, my dog just isn't all that used to using a ramp and the fact that she can see over the edges makes it a bit scary for her.
I originally purchased the smaller ramp at my local pet store, but I like the larger one MUCH better - especially since I think my next car will be a Tahoe or something similar. Big dogs need big cars! The thing that I thought was so interesting in comparing the 2 ramps, the longer one is exactly as wide as the smaller one. So, if you're thinking of getting the Deluxe XL ramp for a bigger dog, there really isn't a point. The XL ramp is just longer. The regular ramp is fine for smaller trucks. One other point, ordering off of Amazon was MUCH cheaper than the ramp I purchased at my local pet super-store. That one was much more expensive and returned as soon as I had a chance to see the two ramps next to one another.

I've had this ramp for 3 weeks and use it 3 or 4 times a day.I've taken it to the beach, used it when it was raining and have hosed it off for cleaning. The ramp is a quality made product, light weight but not flimsy.I highly recommend this ramp.

Good product, we use it for our Ford F-150 and our 9 year old Golden walks right up it. Took a few tries to get her used to it. Didn't come with the snap for the safety strap, but I called customer service and they sent one right out.

I needed a ramp ASAP because my dog was having surgery for a torn ACL and wouldn't be able to jump into the SUV for 8 weeks. So I started searching and reading all of the reviews. I needed a wide ramp for my Bernese Mt.Dog who is 110 lbs because I didn't want him to be afraid to use it. I also wanted a long ramp so the incline wasn't too steep. This ramp was xtra long & wide and seemed like it would be perfect but after reading some of the reviews I was afraid to purchase it. Well it was the smartest purchase I made and it works sooo well. People complained about how it was packaged for shipping, and about the sharp edges, and everything else you could think of. Well let me just say that some of those reviews are outdated and it was shipped a box in a box - nothing fell out during shipping. There were plastic pieces covering the sharp edges and most were rivited in place. Unfortunately 2 plastic pieces did fall off after a few uses but they are the pieces that lay flat against the ground. The buckle to hold it together so it doesn't slide apart while carrying it and the handle work fine. You just need to use it properly and you won't get your fingers pinched as some other reviewers stated. It is probably heaver than other ramps but it does not bow as my dog walks on it - it is very sturdy. After one weekend he learned to walk on it. At first I thought the surface would be a problem but after he got used to walking on it, he now goes up & down like a champ. Start by laying it flat on the floor and gradually build up to the car height by using it on the couch or on a hill or single step. You also need to have room to transport it and the dog so be sure to check the dimensions of it when it is collapsed. I put the dog in the back of the SUV and the ramp across the back seat. It really is a great investment.

I like the size and ease of use with this ramp. The big problem is that the material that provides the gritty surface for traction soon tore from my dogs claws scratching the ramp as he ascended. Over time these tears have resulted in "chunks" of this material tearing loose. I would be hesitant to purchase this ramp again.Solvit 62337 Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp

I love, love this ramp. I purchased my first ramp for my two large, older dogs about a year ago but the large male would not use it because it bounced. Now our large male is very lame he is 102 pounds and will use this ramp because it is so strong and does not move and it's easy to adjust. We ordered this through amazon.com and received it within a few days this ramp is perfect for our dogs.

We ordered this ramp for my 4Runner, hoping it would be an alternative for my 6 year old lab to get into the back of the car. The ramp was sturdy enough but there was no place to store it in the vehicle once the dog was in the car. It doesn't fold up at all for easy storage. Too cumbersome so we returned it.
maybe it works for others with bigger SUV's but while the length, etc is good for the 4Runner, there is no place to really store it.

Yes, the positive is that the design of this ramp is Ideal. Works great after you heed the warnings. From Me and others.
OK yes right out of the box I almost needed stiches. The clamp had not been screwed all the way in and when I opened the bos. Like you do you struggle to get the thing out . Oh Boy, it came flying I had a hold of it but in the wrong place. It pinched me severely between my thumb and pointer finger yes, totally messed up blood gushing. OK, after dealing with the severe pinch/cut I had like dog owners hoovering wanting to try it out. That was a mess these dogs were slipping and sliding down the sandpaper, leaving big scratches. The thing looked pretty used before I brought it home for my dogs to try out. They are Samoyed', one a big 12 year old girl and the other a petite year old girl. Get a smile out of this, I'm bringing the ramp home to show all. Making a plan the first thing I do is make sure all screws are tight strap secure? Than only grab outside of ramp when extending keep fingers hands clear of inner track. Once you get that it works great, just don't hurry make it methodical. Lastly the dogs had it down in 5 to 10 minutes. A few treats at first than!!!!Up and down no problem. Also made in China if you didn't allready know. The clincher it works fine after you train yourself for your personal application and read the reviews. Good Luck

Pet Ramp Works as Advertised,

I was not sure what might come out of the box when I found it on my doorstep (The Amazon Box that the Solvit packaging & ramp came in looked like it had an interesting trip?!?!) but after opening up the packaging, I found a sturdy, lightweight, alumnium and plastic ramp inside. I read the 1 page instruction sheet, and after spending about 15 minutes getting our 90+ lb yellow lab acclimated to it, I was able to test it and our dog on two sets of stairs and on the gate of our SUV. (Our Lab will be having surgery done soon to reapir a torn ACL in his knee so we figured that this would be easier than harness lifting him into the SUV to see the Vet or to take him up & down the stairs to have him do his "business" in the yard during his recovery.)
The ramp itself extends easily, stays in place when you put it on the gate or stairs, and closes easily when you are finished. With our clown of a lab running up and down it (he'll do absolutely anything for a little treat), it never slipped off of the stairs or tailgate. The telescoping feature allows us to easily adapt this ramp to different stair heights in our home (the main floor of our place is about 3 feet above street level), the liftback entry to our SUV or the bed of the F150. When it's time to store it, it closes easily and when stuffed in the back seat of the SUV, it stays closed (even when you forget to lock the safety snap). It weighs "next to nothing" and my wife has no problems with setting it up, taking it down or putting it into the cars. Our only complaint is that the grip tape surface, after 30 minutes of use from our Labrador, looked a little worse for wear (His nails are regularly trimmed but what did make contact, left quite a few noticible scuffs and scratches). I would anticipate that we might have to repair or replace the surface covering in a couple of months but if that's all that we have to do to maintain it, I wom't complain too much. |
