Some Brief Folly-a first class romantic advetnure series,
By Good Yarns "Tuckertribe" (CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Some Brief Folly (Hardcover)
The is the fist of a series....the dastardly and powerful Sanguinet family get their start in this novel about an "unattainable" woman who has received countless offers of marriage from the ton's finest men, and yet remains unmarried. She stumbles across a man reputed to be a terrible villain; killing his wife and only child and maiming his neighbor. This spirited and smoothly written adventure has several other amusing and dashing characters and many trials to overcome to set all to rights. I recommend this book and this series highly, and collect them in my personal library as well.

Regency romance at its finest!,

This review is from: Some Brief Folly (Hardcover)
Euphemia Buchanan, with her brother Sir Simon Buchanan and her page, Kent, are on a journey to visit their Aunt Lucasta for Christmas when a carriage accident forces them to accept assistance from the notorious owner of Dominer, the nearby estate. However, Sir Garret Hawkhurst, in addition to having a reputation as a rake and a gambler, stands accused of involvement in the death of his wife and child....The first instalment in Patricia Veryan's Sanguinet Saga, _Some Brief Folly_ is an enjoyable Regency read and ably demonstrates Veryan's mastery of the genre and characteristic humour. It includes the usual cast of lovely, but feisty, heroines; noble, but misunderstood, heroes, and an accompanying assortment of dastardly, and not-so-dastardly, villains. Enjoy!

Very good interesting Regency,

This review is from: Some Brief Folly/The Noblest Frailty (Mass Market Paperback)
To Regency fans, obviously the name Patricia Veryan demands respect. This story does not let you down. The characters are very well written and you are walked through the story discovering right along with the characters.
The sideline story that occurs between the brother and sister of the hero/heroine is a little over the top perhaps and not really incredibly interesting, but that is the only fault of the book. There is a lot of Romance here and Ms. Veryan does not make you wait for a hundred pages before the heroine says something that you know she would and should say to prevent "the great misunderstanding" from happening, thank god. I didn't realize this was the beginning of a series but will ardently seek out the rest of the books and recommend that to everyone. |
