This review is from: Some Champions (Paperback)
Some Champions contains stories by Ring Lardner not seen in any other compilation of his stories anywhere. He's got some excellent short stories included in here like "Mamma," a story about a woman who has lost her memory but in the end you find out she's lost more than that. And "Poodle" about a down on his luck guy with a overbearing wife who gets let go from his job and falls into another one because he looks like someone a rich person knows. It's well written and funny. And "Bob's Birthday," a poignant story about one family member, Bob, a successful musician, who supports his entire family who are all out of work and do not mind it one bit.
These are just three of the many stories included in this book. Well worth the purchase. It's classic Lardner.
