1.0 out of 5 stars HELLO - ADULTERER - HOW CAN ANYONE RATE THIS 5 STARS DID THEY READ THE SAME BOOK AS I DID?????, May 7, 2010
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
Husband cheats with wife's best friend she leaves and has an accident and nearly dies, she spends 10 months in hospital and rehab and he offers to spend 2 months to help her at home before they divorse. She can't remember the last year so she can't remember him cheating, so this book is about how he learns to fall in love with the woman that she has always been but that he totally ignored because he was so wraped up in his business. He never acknowledges what he did to her, never says I'm sorry that I abandoned you treated you like crap, nothing. Right at the end of this book she remembers, and guess what an angel appears to her and tells her to forgive him tells her that it was her fault that he cheated because she stoped the physical relationship with him, hello what about all that he did to her, this angel then tells her that their marriage was nearly ended anyway and to forgive him. WT, then she just goes home sits on his lap kisses him and gives him this christmas ornament that says that there marriage is forever or whatever at this point I'm thinking just how stupid do you think I am. She remembers he cheated and she just goes and sits on his lap and kisses him, theres no discussion nothing she just forgives him and kisses him, this has to be the biggest WTF moment I have ever, ever read. I would recommend that you never read even a word from this book. I will be in angst that I was advised by the readers that this was a good book. There is no resolution no discussion nothing, I'm still shaking my head thinking how dare this author think that as a reader that I would be so stupid to accept this ending. PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. ADULTERER. NO RESOLUTION, NOTHING. SAVE YOUR MONEY. YOU DON'T NEED THE ANGST.

On Christmas Eve, Maggie Mckinney cannot believe that her marriage to Ross is over, though she should not be surprised since he never has time for her anyway. An angry Maggie is stunned that Ross never even put up a minor fight to stop her from walking out on him. Maggie drives away on the icy roads, but her car skids and she is badly injured in the ensuing accident. Over the next few months, Ross sees that Maggie gets the best medical care and often visits her at the hospital.

However, though she is physically much better, Maggie suffers from amnesia as a result of the blow to her head. When it is time for her to be released, her doctor suggests Ross take her back to their Bethlehem home so that little will spark her memories. Ross regrets what he did to his beloved Maggie before the accident. He tries his best to make it up to her by helping her regain her memory. Even as he gives her the ultimate gift, Ross knows that when she regains what she lost, he will lose everything that he cherishes in life.

Marilyn Pappano has deservedly earned a reputation for her fabulous story lines that always thrill readers. Her current contemporary romance, SOME ENCHANTED SEASON, is a spellbinder that will elate fans with its holiday message. Ross is a warm character, whose regrets will fill every reader's stockings with plenty of angst. Maggie is also a magnificent protagonist, leaving fans of contemporary romance with no reason to not spend and enchanted evening with Ms. Pappano.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a tremendously beautiful book., June 5, 1999
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is extremely beautiful. Marilyn Pappano once again weaves an emotionally touching story of two beautiful people who lost and luckily regained each other. The author builds emotions high and strong. She paints emotions vividly in great careful detail and i was entranced. It was with a sense of regret when i finally turned the back cover of this book since i got fond of the lovable characters in it. If you liked reading "A Season For Miracles," you will definitely love this one too. One gets reacquianted with old friends and gets to know other characters even deeper. A further insight into how it went with the Daltons/Bishops is an added delight. Another bonus is Holly's character which sprinkles some additional laughs into the story as well. The enticing town of Bethlehem and its very own nostalgie-evoking Christmas tradition provides once again a magical backdrop to Ross's and Maggie's spell-binding romance. This is one book to savor, relax and enjoy with, to be hooked on, to ponder upon, and to learn from. I'm certainly looking forward to the next story set in Bethlehem by Ms. Pappano. Just as a German would say upon stumbling something precious and worthwhile, "Es lohnt sich, wirklich!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - This book is a MUST read, November 2, 1998
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
After years of neglect, arguments and broken promises, Maggie McKinney was finally leaving her workaholic husband. As she drove away from the tiny town of Bethlehem Pennsylvania on Christmas Eve, a freak accident stopped her in her tracks and almost ended her life. Trapped in her destroyed truck, Maggie's last thoughts were that Ross probably couldn't think of a better Christmas gift than her death.

Ross didn't recognize the battered woman on the gurney as his wife. Only her emerald stud earrings gave him a clue as to her identity. After countless surgeries and nine months in therapy, Maggie is ready to leave the hospital, her mind erased of the events in the year preceding her accident. On the advice of her doctor, Ross reluctantly agrees to accompany Maggie back to Bethlehem. Due to her physical handicaps and her spotty memory, it is unclear if Maggie would ever be able to live on her own. But what would a man used to 100-hour workweeks do in the little town of Bethlehem?

Maggie felt lost when she first arrived in Bethlehem. Nothing looked familiar to her. Neither the house she had remodeled months before the accident nor the neighbors who welcomed her home with open arms. But she felt the oddest sense of homecoming as she entered the house and she knew that she never wanted to leave here again. With Ross by her side, Maggie knew that there was nothing she couldn't tackle. But did he want to remain by her side?

Facing three months alone with the woman he had once loved to distraction, Ross didn't know if they could remain civil through the Christmas holidays. But as time passed and old hurts begin to fade, Ross caught glimpses of the enchanting woman that he loved all those years before. But was it really too late to save their marriage? Or would their newfound happiness be shattered by her returning memories?

Marilyn Pappano has once again taken us back to Bethlehem Pennsylvania, the site of her last year's A SEASON FOR MIRACLES. SOME ENCHANTED SEASON is a gripping novel of lost dreams, rekindled love and the redemption found in forgiveness. Pappano's wonderfully drawn characters will delight the readers and Bethlehem is a town that anyone would love to visit. Pappano is an exceptional story-teller and SOME ENCHANTED SEASON will definitely enchant the readers. So grab a cup of hot chocolate and your favorite afghan and settle down for a warm winter's read by one of romance's finest authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tender Story, September 10, 2006
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was good and sweet. Maggie is married to Ross, a rich workaholic. She wants more out of life than just money. Will she stay with Ross, or will she divorce him and found somebody else? There is a lot more to this book than just that, but you have to read the book to find out. I do not want to ruin it for you. This book is very good and touching. I loved the character Noel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Love Story, November 6, 2004
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a good, well-written love story. The plot was good. I loved it. I loved the character Noel; she played a very important role in the story. This story is an example of what can happen when you don't always have your priorities in order and don't have your soul mate as your #1 priority.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't read this one first., March 22, 2004
By
mahikahn (Columbus, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved all the books in the Bethlehem series. Although this book was the first in the series, it was actually the third one I read. If I'd read this first I wouldn't have read any more.

Maggie and Ross are about to get a divorce after 16 years, although they are still living together. He wants power, prestige and money and doesn't care about anything but getting it. To that end he turns Maggie into a Stepford wife; using her to further his career, even though Maggie's dreams are being sacrificed in the process. Ross wants Maggie to dress a certain way, decorate a certain way, have certain social contacts, etc. since this all reflects on him and helps him pursue his ambition.

Ross works 100 hour work weeks and never has time to spend with Maggie. However, he does manage to find time to have an affair with Maggie's best friend, the wife of a man they are also friends with. He's "lonely" and "needs affection" and Jessica is "willing" and "available". How this equates into sex and justifies breaking your wedding vows I can't fathom. This all comes out on Christmas Eve when Ross buys a very expensive gift for his mistress and she opens it in front of Maggie and Jessica's husband. Frankly, the way Ross gave Jessica this gift made it seem as if he wanted this to be brought to light and hurt Maggie in the most humiliating way.

When Maggie takes off in her car in the middle of a snowstorm Ross makes no attempt to stop her even though he knows she's too upset to drive. Maggie almost dies (at the time she thinks that would be the best Christmas present she could give Ross) in a terrible auto accident and loses her memory of that Xmas eve. Ross very reluctantly agrees to take care of her while she is recuperating and trying to regain her memory.

Sorry, but I think this guy is a jerk. He doesn't want to be with Maggie, resents the fact that he is, and is only doing it out of his own guilt. Maggie was strong, loving and finally found the courage to go after her dreams. I think she deserves a whole lot better than Ross. I don't believe he loved Maggie or he couldn't have done all the things he had to her over the years.

I gave this a four because I liked Maggie, the setting, the other characters and of course the writing. But Ross came in at about a minus ten!

5.0 out of 5 stars For the cynics, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book ages ago, upon completion I contacted my bookseller and special ordered and presented copies to each of my friends. The story was emotional and draining. After reading I was ready to relocate to Bethlehem, since everyone longs for a Ross or someone of his calibre in their lives. He is strong and
dependable force, yet he has his own set of insecurities, you can't help but admire as you admonish him for not realising the treasure he has in his wife. Maggie, is resigned to her future, yet she rises to the challenge of meeting each new day with grace and dignity, even though the thought of divorce looms darkly in the distance. Any woman would respect her convictions and cry along with her as she suffers through acceptance of the possible demise of her marriage. The words are nostalgic at times, painful yet provided the reader with insight to hopefully a happy ending, which it delivers at the end. This book is truly an inspiration, especially to die-hard cynics like myself. This story was reminiscent of true love with the knowledge that the path to true happiness is not always paved with good intentions. Their rediscovery of each other reflects how easily one can lose themselves and the vows taken, yet, rediscover the path to true happiness with perseverance and devotion. I highly recommend this book, emotional and insightful. Great read.

This was my first Marilyn Pappano book...I stayed up until 4 am reading it, it was that GOOD. I am particular about my books, and this one had great character development and realistic situations. I have passed it around to all of my friends. I have made it a point to read all of Pappano's other books. A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Reading!, September 11, 2000

This review is from: Some Enchanted Season (Mass Market Paperback)
I happened upon this book by chance, and once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. The story is so beautifully told and the characters are so real, that you feel as if you are a part of the town of Bethlehem (where the story takes place). After reading this, I immediately ordered all of the other "Bethlehem" novels Ms. Pappano has written. You absolutely want to know more about all of her characters once you've met them. I will forever be a Pappano fan, particularly of the Bethlehem series, but I think this one will always be my favorite.
