One of Colcannon's first CD's and still one of the best,

This album is a great introduction to the music of Colcannon. While I would recommend picking up all the albums that this band has released this one is as fine a sampling of their music as can be found. It features a survey of traditional and contemporary works, my favorites include a Bass heavy "Siege of Kinsale/Flight to Salamanca" and a light and joyfull "Oxford Road/Bloom of Youth".

One of the best acoustic Celtic CDs around,

My devotion to Colcannon's music began with this CD, shortly after I saw them for the first time in concert. Now . . . I never miss an opportunity to catch a show or buy one of their CDs. Truly one of the best acoustic Celtic groups to be found anywhere.

Irish magic,

I have been an avid fan of Colcannon since seeing them at a bluegrass festival in Colorado nine years ago. They were my introduction to Irish folk music and as a result, I would travel to Ireland if for no other reason than to hear the music. Some Foreign Land is probably still my favorite Colcannon CD. The combination of musicianship and storytelling involved in their performance is magical. Only the lead singer, Mick Bolger, is actually native Irish, but the other members certainly have the hearts to be. My favorite piece on this CD is "Kilkelly", based on actual letters from a son & father. The first time I heard it, it brought me to tears. If you ever get the chance to see Colcannon live, take it! Their cameraderie with each other and the audience only adds to the joy of listening to their music.

I came across Colcannon on Pandora and bought this and Life of Riley's brother here. Great music. Very fun to listen to.

a great CD from a good band,
This review is from: Some Foreign Land (Audio CD)
my girlfriend took me to see these people at the arts festival in Denver, which led to me getting this CD... let me say that I am a fan of old school metal. I never pictured myself listening to Celtic music, much less crying when Killkelly and Hungry grass come on. But, I do. This is full of typical Irish music--beutiful, but sad and depressing. "P stands for Paddy" is the only one on here that is not a sad song; however, it is also my least favorite, and the reason I give this four and a half stars instead of five. If you like Celtic, buy this CD. It's got lots of good music on it. This is a great CD, and well worth the cost.
