preK, K level version, April 26, 2009
This review is from: Some Friends to Feed: The Story of Stone Soup (Hardcover)
This is a beautifully illustrated version of Stone Soup. It has the same type of lush artwork and vibrant depictions of people that are in "Abiyoyo", a book by the same author and illustrator. This Stone Soup story is not as detailed as some other versions and so is suitable for a younger audience (K, preK).
In my sped class of 1st and 2nd grade level readers, we read and compared the Margaret Brown and Jon Muth versions. This Pete Seegar version was not as useful for this task, but my students enjoyed the book. There is not as much emphasis on the moral lessons (sharing, honesty, working together)and there is less emphasis on the details - the party at the end, where the food was hidden, best beds, etc.
