Worst movie like ever.

The more women he talks to the more you begin to despise the guy and by the end I really ended up hating everything about the guy.

No surprise that Adam Brody is terrific but his character is not the greatest but what would you expect from Neil labute?

"I wrote down the names of the women I felt remotely responsible for our problems. I narrowed it down to 5 who I felt were truly essential to me and where I am at now as a person." When a writer (Brody) decides to get married he makes a list of his former girlfriends and visits the top 5 one last time to bring closure to all the relationships. One by one he is told what they think of him and why they feel the way they do. He not only questions his current relationship but his past actions as well. This is a movie that is hard to review. First of all the idea and acting are good and it is obvious that this was written as a stage play. In order to really feel for the characters you have to not really even like them but you must respect them. Bad guys are interesting, you don't like them but you respect the character and his role. Adam Brody's character in this is so unlikeable you almost hate him and really have no respect for what he is doing. The more women he talks to the more you begin to despise the guy and by the end I really ended up hating everything about the guy. The test for a good movie is one that makes you feel certain emotions. By that standard this was a good movie, but this isn't really one I can recommend because Brody's character really could go down as one of the worst people in the history of cinema. I guess to see what I mean is a reason to watch. Overall, good movie but I can't recommend it. I give it a B-.

Having watched this film, I'd definitely recommend it. It's carefully made, thought provoking and full of interesting social commentary on modern relationships. It's one of LaBute's best. But you don't have to take my word for it, look up some of the critics' reviews of it. "Variety" said it better than I could: "Each member of the ensemble offers a vividly detailed performance resounding with emotional truth, delivering lengthy swaths of LaBute’s sometimes savagely furious, sometimes shocking funny dialogue with pitch-perfect degrees of intensity. Kazan and Brody arguably are first and second among equals but, really, there isn’t a weak link in the chain." And it made "Film School Rejects" best films of the year, ditto with "The AV Club," who described Zoe Kazan in the film as delivering "one of the year’s most stunning performances." It's not "The Holiday" folks, so if you're expecting one-dimensional characters and everything wrapped up in saccharine bow, it may not be for you. But it's a movie you think about for days afterwards written by one of America's great living play writes. Definitely worth seeing.

This is the type of movie where stories are joined together by some thread. This works sometimes and not others. I bought to see Kristen Bell's performance, but the movie hung together, and there were many good performances. Script dialog was pretty good, and no doubt none of these fine actors would have joined the cast had it not been a decent script. Better than ok, but not something that I will have to watch over and over.

By the way Kristen's performance is quite good. I think she has decided that it is better to take smaller good parts or larger parts in Independent films than to take big movie so-so parts. Others who have followed this path to some good work include Marisa Tomei and Winona Ryder in her post shoplifting era.

I'm still not sure that this movie was not a horror film. A terribly unlikable guy on a sadomasochistic journey to visit with his former girlfriends--well, the ones that meant the most to him ostensibly. The fact that a man like this could lure more than a deaf and dumb dog to his side--let alone a beautiful woman or twelve--is one of the most horrifying aspects of the movie.

I didn't "like" this movie, but some parts are enthralling. Mainly because of the actresses. Painful, inappropriate, and slimy conclusions to each relationship from the past are revisited. All because of him, of course. And yet he convinces himself he wants to make amends of some sort. All the while missing just how slimy and deceitful he is being with each woman in the here and NOW.

So, this film is like a character study of a really worthless jerk. I guess that is a stroke of writing genius? Unfortunately, the main character is soooooo hate-worthy. Nobody cares if he gets hit by a bus or falls into a pit of rusty butter knives. He is THAT distasteful and off-putting.

So why did I watch it? Well, the women are written very well. Their characters are fascinating. And the actresses playing them are incredibly talented. This movie is kind of an acting class in that regard. You feel for them, hoping they will escape this piece of garbage unscathed.

Strangely enough, Adam Brody is not very good. Kind of unlikable! Ironically. So maybe he was meant to play this deluded scumbag.

The film builds slowly, revealing in layers how scumbaggy this writer is. Until the ending confirms that he is indeed terrible and leaves you wanting to knock him around a basement with a 2x4. But then again, I'm a guy.

DO NOT BUY THIS. Watch it if you enjoy drama. Don't expect to walk away satisfied, though. The main character lives.
