Editorial Reviews

2010 release, the third album from the Grammy-nominated British singer/songwriter. The album features 12 new songs and was produced by Steve Robson (with additional production from Greg Kurstin and Eg White). It sees Blunt, who has sold in excess of 16 million albums worldwide, capturing a new feeling of spontaneity and freshness summed up by his comment that he sees his first two albums as a pair of book ends - action and reaction. Some Kind Of Trouble, then, is very much the start of a new chapter. The album was recorded largely in London with members of James' touring band. The album includes the single "Stay The Night".

Since receiving this CD, I have played it several times in the evening hours. Listening not only to the tunes and rifts but also to the words that he has written to accompany them. Blunt is a master at writing lyrics that are short, sweet, and to the point. He is a master of understatement. The tunes are catchy and during the day I find myself singing a few lines as I am walking. All in all another great buy for myself. A+++++ and all that stuff.

The perky jangly lead-off single "Stay The Night" opens album number 3 "Some Kind Of Trouble" by James Blunt. Maintaining the upbeat tempo are the catchy eighties rock-sounding "Dangerous" (the best thing here), "So Far Gone", the Fleetwood Mac-channeling "Superstar", the Chris Rea-style "These Are The Words", the clap-laden "I'll Be Your Man", and the raucous Blues/Rock "Turn Me On".

He returns to his default setting on everything else; sweeping teary ballads with quivering falsetto vocals like the piano-driven "Best Laid Plans" (sure to thrill fans of "You're Beautiful"), "No Tears", "Calling Out Your Name", "Heart Of Gold" (very Elton John), and the Country-tinged "If Time Is All I Have".

Those that hated his earlier albums won't change their minds unfortunately, but those that loved them will find more to love here. 3 and a half stars.

This is one of my favorite CD of 2010. I agree with the previous reviews. My favorites songs are the upbeat Stay the Night (it makes me really miss summer time in California); Best Laid Plans, Heart of Gold, Dangerous, No Tears (maybe my favorite), and Calling out your name are ALL great ballads with touching lyrics. The CD is more uptempo but you can still find a way to connect with Blunt's lyrics. The other songs are great as well! This is a must by CD

There are many more happy songs on this CD which is a nice change. HIs style is emotional and moving. The songs are all catchy and well written. If you like James Blunt's older work you will love him now!

I wish there was a 4.5 stars rating available. If you like his voice you will like this release.

Many of the songs are more upbeat than his two previous efforts and it's his most consistent to date. The lyrics are more positive, less depressing, and you won't need to hide all the sharp instruments before listening to them.

This was made with the same band he has used for years and I think the musicianship is the best of any of his CDs.

There aren't any outstanding tracks such as "You're Beautiful" or "1973". However all the tracks are of a high quality and stand up under repeated plays. I don't skip any of them when I listen to it and I like "Stay the Night" and "No Tears" the most and all of them are well written and played.

I recommend listening to the samples and if you like them BUY IT. I bought it before it was released and have not been disappointed.

Blunt's unique style is infused with a happier tone in the opening song but he still retains his distinctive style in the remainder. Inasmuch as I'm a devoted fan - cannot help but give this disk an all star review! He's simply the Best!
