4.0 out of 5 stars A great story to pass the time

Cute book, easy to read, don't have to think much. Sometimes it is nice to read something that is an easy little book.

This was a good novel. The characters were likable and well developed. They could be people we all know in real life. They each grow throughout the story and grow together as neighbors and friends. The storyline in this book seemed to be well thought out. It moved at a fairly decent pace.
There are a lot of events that happen over the one week course of this story. All in all this was a good book. I found myself reading as fast as I could because I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I would like to see a follow-up book to this story. Maybe one more in-depth with Sarah and Reverend Johnathan.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good book, November 8, 2005

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. I read it twice in two weeks. This was my first B. Freethy book, and will certainly not be my last. I am very curious about her other novels. The book is not too steamy by current standards, but thank heaven for that, because she actually crafts a very good story, and allows the reader to understand the characters. It is high on emotion, and I found myself falling in love with the hero and heroine. excellent book. very unlike other novels where a boatload of bedroom scenes surrounds a skeleton of a "plot" (ie. Shannon Mckenna)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read, December 16, 2001
This review is from: Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
Barbara Freethy is a good writer. Both the heroine and hero are likeable, believable characters who go through self-discovery processes as they fall in love with each other. They become better people able to gain perspective and make commitments because of what they go through together. The author showed some strength in developing the book the way she did as well. While it's clearly a romance novel, it isn't totally a fairy tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not great, contemporary romance., March 6, 2002

This review is from: Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a good, solid contemporary romance by Barbara Freethy. All the usual elements are there - a sexy but stoic hero and beautiful but vulnerable heroine are thrown into an emotionally charged situation. Here, the catalyst is a baby that appears in the hallway between their neighboring apartments. As they struggle to care for the baby and find its mother, the two strangers rapidly become enmeshed in one anothers' lives. Freethy does a good job of making the scenario work, and the book is a pleasant and quick read. My only reservation is that the sexual tension was a bit forced and too formulistic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fell in Love!!, April 3, 2011
This was the first time I had ever read a book by this author and I can't wait to read more. I would agree with other posts that the dialogue is so believable and realistic and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. Just the right amount of passion and romance and a little bit of mystery. Great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some kind of wonderful is just that!, September 9, 2001
This review is from: Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
What happens when you're a bachelor journalist running on three hours sleep out of the last seventy-two; you come home ready to relax, and then hear a baby crying outside your apartment? The investigator in you opens the door to see the wailing culprit left alone in a car seat. You step across the hall to your new neighbor's apartment, pound on the door, then tell her she's left her baby outside by mistake. The neighbor thinks your nuts. Oh, the apartment building is child-free so you have to find a way to quiet this baby.

Caitlyn Devereaux is in seamstress deadline hell. The last thing she needs is her apparently helpless, desperate, hunky neighbor, Matt Winters, and "his" baby at her door. It's midnight, and she has a wedding gown to finish, like, yesterday. Just because she's a woman and has wedding gown paraphernalia cluttering her apartment, does NOT mean she's an expert in the infant department. But, darn it, they're both so cute, how can Caitlyn refuse them?

When they find a cryptic message under the baby's bottom in the car seat, Matt and Caitlin agree on a tentative agreement to take care of the child until the mother returns. They practically live in each other's pockets for a week, first becoming friends out of necessity, then developing stronger feelings for each other they try not to act on. And, just what is going to happen between them if and when the mother does return and claim the baby they've grown to love?

Sexual tension runs high, the characters all elicit sympathy from the reader, and the storyline may not be original, but the author makes it seem so. Ms. Freethy showcases her many talents as one of the romance genre's beloved authors by creating real-life believable characters thrown into an extraordinary situation. Both Matt and Caitlyn have some serious baggage from their pasts to contend with before they can move forward. This couple may have wallowed in their private hurts had they never met. The baby is adorable, and the unexpected identity of the mother tugs at heartstrings. Matt and Caitlin's quest to find her keeps this tale moving along at a fast, emotional pace.

The title says it all. SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL is exactly that. Ms. Freethy delivers another powerful and moving story which includes a touch of the paranormal for a very poignant and satisfying end. I recommend you start this book early -- its an all-nighter!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book with real emotion, September 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
I read a lot of romance and I think it's pretty rare to find an author who can write emotion the way that Barbara Freethy does. So many other writers will write a scene that's supposed to be funny or sad or passionate, and it just won't ring true. This book showcases the entire spectrum of emotion and never does it not feel right. Well done, Miss Freethy, you've written a terrific book.

I found Ms Freethy quite by accident and I'm so happy I did! This is a delightful read! If you're feeling a little low; read this book. Her characters are very real and believable; the romance is just the right touch without being too over the top; and there is an element of mystery as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will go on to read her other books. I noticed her customer reviews are 4 and 5 star rated. Can't wait.
