5.0 out of 5 stars Deceived
I felt I was deceived in believing these were all new stories by Mrs. Jackson. As I began to read the first story it felt of déjà vu. After doing some research I found out these are rehash short stories from previous works of combine short stories with other authors. You must understand I do not have a problem with this reprint, I just wish it was stated...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many typos
I love Brenda Jackson's books and enjoyed the stories in this one. However, I was terribly disappointed with all of the typos in the book. They were really obvious ones like the book didn't have an editor. For example, in the first story, one of the main characters is Linc; his name was often written as 'Line.' At one point the advertisements for other books showed up...

I felt I was deceived in believing these were all new stories by Mrs. Jackson. As I began to read the first story it felt of déjà vu. After doing some research I found out these are rehash short stories from previous works of combine short stories with other authors. You must understand I do not have a problem with this reprint, I just wish it was stated "reprinted from previous works". I enjoyed the stories the first time around, but not enough to purchase a second time.

By the way I give the book top rating because of the first read. I just wish I had not been deceived for a second read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Like It Hot, Too, April 28, 2009

In the romance world, Brenda Jackson is practically a household name; she is known for her bestselling sexy stories that turn up the heat between flawed but real men and women. In her first ever short story collection, Jackson continues to add the sizzle she's known and loved for. In a book titled SOME LIKE IT HOT, a reader wants the HOT, and I got it here. The sexual tension between the main characters is palpable, especially in my favorite of the five stories, "Strictly Business." Almost more so than Jackson's way with the sexy word, I enjoyed the main characters Jackson developed. Out of the five stories, no two characters are alike, and their yearnings, that "something" that pulled them through the story, felt real and authentic. My only issue, and it's a "me thing" is length of stories. At times, I felt like I was reading either really long short stories or short novellas, but Jackson's talent as a writer keeps you from feeling the stories trudge along. Hopefully, Jackson will grace us with more shorter works in the futures - "quickies" to whet our "need to have it now" appetites!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hot Collection..., October 12, 2009

In "Main Agenda", Lincoln Corbain still remembers the "spring-break fling" he shared with Raven Anderson. During the week they spent on Daytona Beach, they shared mind-blowing and unforgettable nights of passion. Four years later, when he sees her again in a bar, he can not help but to approach her. But, Raven has her heart content on another agenda.

In "Strictly Business", can Mitch Farrell earn back the love and respect of his ex-wife Regina Grant? Mitch returns to Houston with a plan...to win back Regina. Regina, a successful journalist, agrees, at his request, to write a story on him for publication. They agree to a strictly business arrangement, but can Regina really forgive him for putting his career over their marriage?

In "Irresistable Attraction" Sydney Corbain discovers she has feelings for a musician, Tyrone Hardcastle. But is she willing to give herself to a man, who puts his women second to his music, especially when the last thing Tyrone wanted was to complicate his life by letting his emotions and feelings for Sydney take over.

In "Extremen Satisfaction" Cathleen McAlister needs a man. Not just any man, but one who can give her extreme satisfaction. Rory Dawkins has already been ditched once by Cathleen for the sake of sacrificing her career. Now he is more than prepared to show her that if she wants him back, it would be on his terms.

"The Hunter" Hunter Sloan doesn't believe in commitments. When Mallory Standish suggest that she wants more from their affair, they decided it's time to go their separate ways. They do, until Mallory hires Hunter to watch her brother-in-law, whom she expects is cheating on her sister. Hunter cannot deny the attraction he feels for Mallory, but can she tame the Hunter?

I love Brenda Jackson's books and enjoyed the stories in this one. However, I was terribly disappointed with all of the typos in the book. They were really obvious ones like the book didn't have an editor. For example, in the first story, one of the main characters is Linc; his name was often written as 'Line.' At one point the advertisements for other books showed up in the middle of one of there stories. It was quite distracting and took away from the stories.

I didn't realize I had already read the stories before but it's good to have them all in one place. Since I had previously read i gave the book to one of daughter's teachers for some fun/hot summertime reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Duped, October 2, 2009
By
This review is from: Some Like It Hot (Paperback)
Let me first state that I absolutely love Brenda Jackson's work. I've read almost all of her books and anthologies. So imagine my disappointment when I began reading "Some Like It Hot" and experienced Deja Vu. All the stories in this book are from various anthologies that were published years before. Now I don't mind re-reading a Brenda Jackson story here and there. But I felt completely duped and mislead by this book. The publisher leads the reader to believe that these are brand new stories when indeed the book is simply a compiled reprint of previously published stories.

I'm SOOOOOO glad this was not a purchase but a library read since I already have in my collection almost all these stories (included in anthologies that Ms. Jackson contributed to.)

For someone who's never read any anthology that Ms Jackson has contributed to... this book is perfect. But for those who have read just about every Brenda Jackson story..... don't bother... you'll be extremely disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hotter Than July!, July 21, 2009
This review is from: Some Like It Hot (Paperback)
Some Like It Hot is an anthology of five steamy romance stories by Brenda Jackson. In "Main Agenda," Linc Corbain runs into Raven Anderson after spending a mind-blowing week with her over four years ago. Linc wants to rekindle that, but Raven has another agenda.

Regina Grant is "Strictly Business" when her ex-husband Mitch Grant hires her to write a story about him. Mitch has other plans that include getting back the best thing that ever happen to him.

Sydney Corbain and Tyrone Hardcastle share an "Irresistible Attraction" which they're both willing to let go undiscovered. A chance meeting in New York causes them to explore those feelings and discover what true love is.

In "The Hunter," Hunter Sloan is not the commitment type of guy. That's why he had to break things off with Mallory Standish. When she hires him to watch her brother-in-law, Hunter knows he is in trouble.

In "Extreme Satisfaction," Cathleen McAlister is a workaholic who will allow nothing to stand in her way. When she starts to see Rory Dawkins as a threat to her accomplishing her goals, she breaks things off. When she finally realizes he is the most important accomplishment in her life, it may be too late.

Brenda Jackson is a dynamic writer with the ability to keep you captivated by a story from beginning to end. Some Like It Hot is no different.

I was very disappointed that this was just a collection of stories I have already read. I thought this would be new work from Ms. Jackson. If you have not read any of the stories before then this is a book that you will enjoy, otherwise do not waste your money on something that you have already purchased.
