Review

The things we will promise if we could just turn back the pages of time! In Deb Stover's new book Some Like It Hotter, we find out that some people are willing to pay dearly for this wish. Ms. Stover makes the promise of a man's soul to the devil an exciting and incredible journey into the past - to a period just after the Civil War. With imaginative meetings with a little devil named Slick and racy love scenes that simply burn up the pages, this time-travel promises heat and passion. Mike Faricy finds himself promising his very soul to bring back his partner and brother-in-law, and one of the devil's very own is more than willing to assist. When Mike wakes up in 1865 to the face of an angel, he thinks the entire episode with the old man was just a dream. But when his angel turns into Abigail Kingsley, a Southern belle protecting her family from a stranger in her home, Mike realizes that maybe this little trip is more than he bargained for. Mike's only hope of saving Barney in the twentieth century is to kill the ancestor of the man who caused Barney's death. So the search is on. Slick takes on many faces, leading Mike through this time, pointing out little problems in Abigail's story. He instructs Mike to watch Abigail and pay attention to little things she says and does. Abigail has her own story. She has a beautiful little boy she has promised to protect at all costs, but she has no husband. Her family home will be auctioned off to pay taxes. Mike agrees to help her, fixing tools and farming equipment so she can sell it. But Abigail finally has to face the fact that she will not be able to survive without help, and she must provide a safe future for her son. She mails a letter to the man that she would choose to forget...the father of her child....the tormentor of her very soul. Now, only a miracle can save them, and only a trick of fate could possibly keep them together. The wild fires in Hell cannot keep these two lovers from scalding each other. A burn you'll never forget! The devil never had a more captivating role! Intriguing, passionate, and fun....yes, fun! A story for those who love a blend of romance and mystery!Karen Ellington -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars My All-Time Favorite Book!, November 10, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Some Like It Hotter (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading Deb Stover's most recent release, ALMOST AN ANGEL, I begged my bookseller to order all her titles for me. SOME LIKE IT HOTTER came next, and I devoured it. While I loved ANGEL, SOME LIKE IT HOTTER is even better. In fact, this story takes the place of honor on my keeper shelf as my all-time favorite book. I saw it referred to somewhere online as "Dirty Harry Meets Scarlett O'Hara." That pretty well sums it up. When detective Mike Faricy's partner is killed in a shoot-out, Mike is willing to do anything to turn back the clock, including selling his soul to the devil. As it turns out, the devil sends his minion, Slick Dawson, who offers to send Mike back in time one day to prevent the killing. Slick is the nastiest villain I've encountered in a long time in fiction of any genre. Whew! Mike awakens back in time one day...plus over a hundred years! Now he has to prevent his partner's murder from 1865 Mississippi! He's in the same antebellum mansion he was in when he sold his soul, b

By A Customer
This review is from: Some Like It Hotter (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is really different. Revenge, lust, love, murder, time travel, a shape-shifting devil's minion villain (oh, what a wicked, vile, evil creature!), and a romance that transcends time. This is a book that stays with you long after you close it. Whew! One of the greatest ever.
