4 ½ 3 ½ and 2 ½ stars for three erotic romance stories. Worth buying for the first one - it was hot and memorable., February 28, 2010

4 ½ stars for SOME LIKE IT ROUGH by Kate Pearce.
Good story. Very hot sex scenes. Caution: some readers will be uncomfortable due to risqué sex scenes pushing the envelope.
Story Brief:
Luke, Paul and Julia grew up together in a small town. One night, the three of them had sex together. Right after that, Luke left town. Paul and Julia continued being a couple but never married and live apart. Paul runs a ranch. Julia manages the local bank. It is now ten years later, and Luke returns. He plans to renovate an old drugstore and turn it into an old-fashioned soda shop and ice cream parlor. Paul and Julia come to see him. The sparks are still there. The three of them have sex. This time, it's a little different. Luke is in charge. He knows what he wants, and the others noddingly go along with it.
Reviewer's Opinion:
This author writes great sex scenes. They are hot and emotionally draw me in. Some readers may be uncomfortable due to men with men and a quantity of rear door activity, but she does it well. The story is good too.

3 ½ stars for PRIVATE EYES by Susan Lyons.
Pretty good. A lot of stripping and sensual teasing which was ok, but I wanted a little more story and character development.
Story Brief:
When Paul lost his job, his wife Jennifer got a job as a stripper. Paul later found work, but Jennifer wouldn't quit her stripping job. Paul hires The Private Eye (a detective agency) to find out if she is having an affair or into drugs. The story begins when the agency investigators go to the strip club to watch Jennifer before deciding what to do. Hayley is an administrative assistant for the agency. Ry is the investigator in charge of the case. Ry is surprised when Hayley comes to the club to watch with them. He had always seen Hayley as a prim, proper, and efficient office worker. For the first time, he sees something sensual as he watches her watch the strippers. After the show, Hayley volunteers to become a stripper so she can get close to Jennifer. The agency agrees since strippers become friends and talk with each other.
Hayley has desired Ry for months but never flirted or acted on it. In a prior job she had problems due to sexual advances. So when she got this job she decided to dress down to avoid those problems.
Reviewer's Opinion:
The stripping and sensual teasing scenes were fine, but they took a lot of space, so there was less time for story. The characters were ok. But I think I wanted more character development, interesting conversation, and story. This is a short story so there's not a lot of time for that, which is why I normally prefer longer books.
Data:
Story length: 101 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious words. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 2. Approximate number of sex scene pages: 20. Setting: Vancouver, British Columbia. Copyright: 2010. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

2 ½ stars for CHERRY ON TOP by Anne Rainey.
I had trouble buying the actions of the characters. I wanted more relationship development. Sex scenes were just ok.
Reviewer's Opinion:
Cherry has been fantasizing and desiring Dante for four months. When he finally asks her to dinner, she refuses. He continues asking her out for a month before she agrees to go. Her actions did not fit her feelings and motivations. Later Dante says "In all his years of dating, he'd never found a woman he could imagine spending his life with until now." "Before I asked you to dinner, I knew you were the one." I'm shaking my head saying "what?" There was no relationship development. I saw no interaction that would cause him to feel this way. All they did was have sex. I wanted to see some interesting reasons for him to feel this way. The sex scenes were ok but didn't draw me in as much as other authors have. They were playing dom/sub games with a wink - including sex toys and rear door activity.
Story Brief:
Cherry has low self esteem due to her abusive ex-husband. They divorced, and Cherry moved to Zanesville to open a massage parlor. Dante is a financial planner next door. She has been fantasizing about him for months. Finally he comes to her for a massage and asks her out. He had wanted to expand his business by renting the space she was using which provided some conversational conflict.
Data:
Story length: 72 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 5. Approximate number of sex scene pages: 26. Setting: current day Zanesville, Ohio. Copyright: 2010. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

Some Like it Rough by Kate Pearce, Susan Lyons and Anne Rainey
Contemporary Romance- Anthology- Feb. 23rd, 2010
4 stars
'Some Like it Rough' is an anthology with three stories: 'Some Like it Rough' by Kate Pearce, 'Private Eyes' by Susan Lyons, 'Cherry on Top' by Anne Rainey. These three short stories are very hot and steamy so if that is what you go for, you will definitely enjoy these quick reads.
The first story is about an unconventional couple, Paul and Julia, who smoke up the sheets, but find their relationship lacking due to a past history with Paul's best friend, Luke who abruptly left town after their first threesome encounter. Luke has come back to town and with him, he's brought back a lot of memories of the two people who never forgot him. (As usual, Kate Pearce is never afraid to push the envelope!) I found this story a little risque for my own taste, but for those who live on the edge, this might be the correct amount of hotness for you.
The second story is more traditional one about a PI agent Ry, who is leading a team to find out the truth about one of the client's wife who has found a new passion, stripping. In order to get to know her, (Hayley) his secretary, who he has not taken a second look at, offers to do some grunt work and join an amateur strip contest. And Ry sees Hayley in a whole new light after her dance! Of course, things get a lot more interesting after her makeover. This writing in this story was good, but the plot was pretty predictable. From chapter one, I could tell where the story was going.
The third story is one about a masseuse named Cherry who has moved into a new town, and has a new lease for her small business. Unfortunately, Dante Ricci, a financial advisor, wanted that space for his own business venture. However, his anger quickly dissipated when he made an appointment for a massage with Cherry, who he falls fast for. This was my favorite story out of the three, probably because it was a fast, fun read that was quick paced. And the characters were very likeable!
All in all, these books packed a lot of steam and got me hot under the collar! (But may be a bit racy for readers who like less heat in their books.) This book was a fun romp for those looking for a quick and sensually satisfying read.

I liked it rough..., March 5, 2010
This review is from: Some Like It Rough (Paperback)
This anthology contains three novellas.
1) Some Like It Rough by Kate Pearce ****
In this story, Luke Warner returns to his home town and his old friends after a 10 year absence to confront not only his past, but his attraction to both Paul and Julia. The story was very hot, with m/f, m/m and m/m/f interaction. Loved it and would happily keep it parked on my keeper shelf. I didn't get much of a chance to get to know the characters and would have liked a chance to get deeper into their lives.
2) Private Eyes by Susan Lyons *****
Private detective Ry needs to get close to a client's wife, but the only way to do it is to send the agency's administrative assistant, Hayley, undercover in a strip club where the woman works. This is another very hot story. The sex is seriously steamy and the strip scenes are a wonderful tease. Ms. Lyons did a wonderful job of getting deep into the characters and writing a well-rounded story.
3) Cherry On Top by Anne Rainey **
Cherry opens a thereputic massage practice, but the business owner next door, Dante, isn't happy about it. He wanted the space to expand his own business. This story fell completely flat for me. it started with what felt to me to be a gratuitous sexual setup, no real purpose to the scene. The storyline and conflict, Dante wanting the office space, vanishes as soon as it appeared, and the rest of the story consisted of one sex scene after the other, all designed to play on kink with very little plot or character. I think I could have enjoyed Ms. Raniey's writing if there had been a sustained conflict and consistant characterization, but as it was, I didn't enjoy the story.
Overall, I give the book 4 stars, because the first two stories were extremely enjoyable and something I would happily put on my keeper shelf.
