I am not sure if I have ever read one of this author's books before, but I probably won't read another one. Every scene was written three different ways, every thought was descriptively agonized over. I didn't even care enough to skip to the end of the book. Whoever did the editing for this book really dropped the ball.

I liked this one, but it was just too short. It starts out so well, really drew me in, but it doesn't quite finish with the bang for which I was hoping. I just wish it would have been a bit longer. It has such great potential for further development. A good fun read all in all, but not as good as some of Donna's other books. I recommend "Here Comes Trouble" as well as "Let Me In."

I hope there is a sequel to this book since it left me with unanswered questions. I like a little whimsy in a story and the ending left me wanting more. What makes an enjoyable story (in my opinion) is that I have to like the characters and that I did. That is why I am hoping for more. The long trip back to Scotland got just that...a bit long and often the dialog was a bit redundant. Would like to have spent more time getting to know the villagers and finding out what became of Katie's truely snotty familiy and did Blaine ever develop a backbone? What aboug Tag? Roan was fun and we need to know more about him so I hope that is in the works.
Sometimes, one thing sticks out that made this story a bit hard for me to grasp. There is no woman anywhere that would travel to another continent that would NOT grab her purse and cell phone. Doesn't matter how much chaos is going on at the moment...we grab our main stuff and that would be a purse! I am not an author but I just had trouble with that one yet she had her passport in another bag. This is the first book I have read of Donna Kauffman's and I'll read more of her books. For the most part, I did enjoy this book and kudos for the nice cover design. I always like to see a classy book cover over some of the cheesy ones publishers go for.

Donna Kauffmann is a genius when it comes to writing about romance and men in and out of kilts! This story takes you on a journey. From start to finish you are immerse in the lives of the men on the island and what life holds for them day to day.
This book is a must read for all Donna Kauffman fans. If you haven't read any of her books before, this is a great place to start.

Sad to say, not her best,

I was really excited to see this title because I usually love Ms. Kauffman's books. Unfortunately, this was not one of her best books. It took a lot for me to even finish it. As other reviewers wrote, the trip back to the island took so long and was drug out with long talking and inner thinking passages that it became tedious. The same things were gone over and over. Once the characters got to the island, things picked up. You get to meet some of the islanders and you want to know more about them but you don't get that opportunity. I can only guess that there is a follow up book planned because the book wraps up so quickly and there are so many questions left unanswered. For example, Katie spends much of the book worried about what Blaine her ex is going through back home but (spoiler alert) once he arrives to the island there's hardly a conversation and he is barely mentioned the rest of the book. The bad guy, Ian, takes off with a one sentence explanation yet Katie still insists on investigating him. Overall, very disappointing because it could have been really good. The landscapes were beautifully described. If only they had a great story to carry it between those moments. Try Ms. Kauffman's "Catch me if you can" instead because it is quite good.

fun modern day marriage of convenience fantasy romance,
This review is from: Some Like It Scot (Paperback)
On the island of Kinloch in the Outer Hebrides, Graham is the McLeod chieftain. He would do anything for his clan who make a living with handcrafted items. However, he is taken aback when he learns of a four century marriage agreement between his people and the McAuley clan. He agrees to honor it.
Wanting out of a life she feels is no better than imprisonment American Katie McAuley agrees to fulfill the four hundred years old pact by wedding Graham. She heads to his home but she feels she already knows her betrothed as each have shared meetings on the astral plane. Lust even before first sight (in person that is); Katie and Graham look forward to heated matrimony. This modern day marriage of convenience fantasy romance is a fun, hot and sizzling tale as the lead couple has met before they have actually met. The story line is fast-paced with a strong cast led by the American and the laird. Readers will enjoy Donna Kauffman's lighthearted frolic while pondering the universal questions: (1) can you remain a virgin after sex on the astral plane; (2) can you get pregnant from a sexual encounter on the astral plane; and (3) if yes, is the offspring's norm astral? All will like the hot plot with the Scot. Harriet Klausner |
