I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in furthering their research in cutting edge quantum physics, or furthering one's knowledge in ESP, Psychoenergetics, Psychokinesis, and Sacred Places.

Thank you William Tiller for your contribution in combining science and mysticism into one field of study!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Stunningly Important Piece of Work, May 7, 2006

This review is from: Some Science Adventures with Real Magic (Paperback)
I have been watching the development of William Tiller's work for almost two decades. He is professor emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, who has published over 300 scientific papers. Being an academic is no guarantee that everything that he says is correct. Scientists are just like regular folks, with all the same foibles as the rest of humanity. They are more likely to be atheists and to believe in the power of reason over emotion, but that's about it. We have seen countless scientists who have done something brilliant in their youth and then get caught up in eccentric interests later in life: Newton is by no means the only one.

But William Tiller does not seem to be in that group at all. He has been heavily criticized for his work, not so much that there is anything inherently wrong in it, but because he has had the temerity to explore topics outside the scientific mainstream. For what his work seems to indicate is that mind and matter are inextricably linked together. His work demonstrates something long suspected, and that is that intention is a process that we can cultivate, concentrate and direct. As Kim Jobst says in his forward, "As a physician I can not overstate the importance of this book.... This is work that has stunning implications for science, for medicine, for healing and for the entire edifice of human life and relationship..." Kim is absolutely correct: if indeed the experiments described in the book are correct, and that they can be reproduced, the implications for all of us are quite stunning.

Although the book contains some equations, it can be read easily without trying to comprehend the mathematics. And I do hope that it has an extremely wide readership.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred Spaces, Sacred Science, Sacred Legacy, August 2, 2005
This review is from: Some Science Adventures with Real Magic (Paperback)
Just as many indigenous cultures knew for thousands of years, this book presents thoroughly documented scientific evidence of the amazing things that happen when a group of like-minded souls with experience in expanded states of consciousness focus their intention and will on a common goal. Unfortunately today, many of those cultures are essentially extinct, but many thanks are due to this man and his colleagues - for breaking through the established scientific paradigm, and for offering the hope and tools needed to rescue ourselves, and this planet. From a health and environmental perspective, Dr. Tiller's courageous exploration of the effects of spirit and consciousness on physical reality is an elixir to a world in dire need of new theoretical ideas, and firmly demonstrated alternatives.

Skeptics - get ready to update your websites. Gods in spiritual amnesia - awaken. Dr. Tiller - congratulations sir, you are a true Pioneer.

5.0 out of 5 stars book three, May 26, 2007
This review is from: Some Science Adventures with Real Magic (Paperback)
William A Tiller spells out a new model of physical reality.

I was curious to see where his model came from. As a result, I put the time into learning what OTHER physicists had to say. What I found was that physics has been locked into a struggle which involves trying to fit new discoveries into Einstein's space-time. Space-time involves our familiar left-right, near-far, up-down and, of course, time. The trouble has been that more and more discoveries over the last 100 years simply don't fit.

What does all of this mean? It means that Einstein space-time needs to be added to. More than his 4 dimensions are needed to understand what's going on. Consensus is difficult , but physics is clearly moving in the direction of REQUIRING that Consciousness be added to our familiar space-time. Consciousness and Intention are closer to the bottom line than we ever dreamed.

It is here that Dr Teller et al take up the challenge and begin the process of engineering a model of reality which requires Consciousness and Intention. The seemingly bold step that our Intention creates structural matter is indeed quite consistent with current theoretical physics. Furthermore, the inclusion of at least 11 dimensions in order to understand what's going on is also quite consistent with today's theoretical physics. In short, the Tiller model is like the top stone on a huge pyramid resting on it's extremely broad base.

The potential applications for the Tiller model are awesome. One very important application is in the area of health. When we understand that we create physical structure, our role in health and illness changes dramatically. Our health/illness is coming from us. This radically changes the role of both doctor and "patient". The "patient" becomes primary and the doctor becomes secondary. To think that we can alter our own bodies by the use of our own Intention seems like witchcraft. This brings us to the present book.

What Dr Tiller is telling us is that positive "clinical" results based on self-healing are very definitely NOT witchcraft They are what his model predicts BASED ON PHYSICS, not magic. The Tiller model shows us how to understand reality so that we don't need magic.

The implications of this model are staggering. We are taken beyond Einstein's relativity into domains which radically change our awareness of our world. This expansion of our world view starts at the sub-atomic domain and continues on to include the cosmos and even beyond. Instead of being overwhelming, it is reassuring. WE are central. However, there is a price. That price is personal responsibility.

Physicists discover what our world is made of and engineers make things out of what the physicists find. Dr Tiller has started the process of engineering a model which can lead to predictions. Testing predictions is what science is all about He has done what all good physicists and engineers do. He has begun to outline the bases for equations for both prediction and explanation These equations will eventually be worked out, but we don't have to wait for our scientists to develop them. We can apply right now what the Tiller model shows us. In fact, as WE learn to apply the Tiller model, we will show the scientists where to effectively apply their skills. It's exciting to think about how we all can contribute.

2.0 out of 5 stars A useless mess..., October 28, 2007

Yuri Kuzyk (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Some Science Adventures with Real Magic (Paperback)
I have Tiller's previous book ("Science and Human Transformation") and felt that he contributed some good information by reviewing a number of interesting experiments. I felt in the years since that book that some progress has been made learning about the mechanisms and effects of practices such as qigong in order to understand it better. However, as this book demonstrates, we have gone backwards and not forwards.

To start with, I will state that I am a qigong master as well as a mechanical engineer. I work in biotechnology - on a genetic testing machine at the moment - and also have my own EEG in order to learn more about my own practice. So I have a very strong background in science, an ancient meditative tradition (~700 year lineage), and the pitfalls of psi experiments.

Tiller makes a common mistake by making up a fictitious theory since he can't imagine how to combine qi and our existing scientific framework. This is an old error that goes back to the old days in science - the days of Newton and the ether. If you commit this error you are no longer doing science but something else - new-age spirituality, perhaps?

The book is a confusing mess of experiments and strange theories of stuff "beyond quantum mechanics". Perhaps Tiller could have tested his theoretical framework by starting with something simple - like how does consciousness do something "easy" like control movement? Or even breathing? Do we need to invent a new framework for this? How is this different than manipulating qi?

With the correct framework these questions are easily answered. And then we can move onto explaining how distance healing, water manipulation and energy pulse generation is accomplished. But sadly, this won't be possible in Tiller's mess.

I give it two stars solely for a couple of good points:

-understanding the importance of lab set-up and protocol when studying picowatts and microvolts

- mentioning Shannon and asking "How conscious are we?"

Too bad he didn't stick to the basics...

Not exactly sure what to take from this book versus other, more occult-oriented readings based almost entirely on Christian mysticism and other mystery religions yet the tie between science and the occult, perhaps, this book explores adds a unique perspective to my personal library. In short, a very interesting, good book yet not sure where it "fits" although reads somewhat similar to books have read on government research of remote viewing - science mixed with mysticism with a stronger emphasis, perhaps, on the empirical.
